    DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I asked before and cant find the tread via search feature. May have got binned with the upgrades.
So the 10th digit in the 82 850G is C. So is it a Z or D submodel as pertains to the two different wiring harnesses listed in the parts fiche.

1982 = Z
1983 = D

I don't know what you mean by 10th digit. 10th digit of what? The VIN?

Chuck, you've got an "82" model ... the 10 th digits of the VIN's for the 80's is A for "80" model and goes up through K for "89" models. No guarantees, but that's the way I've got it

So im wondering whats the difference between a D and Z wire harness. 2 different part numbers. Im trying to sort it as im YET AGAIN looking for an unmolested harness so i can build this bike thats been laying around for many hears.

The ignitor is different between the '82 Z and the '83 D.

The connectors at the right side of the block and the ignitor itself will be slightly different (number of pins).

Discovered that back in 2018 when we were attempting a cross-country trip. Mrs. Steve's ignitor on her '82 850L failed. Wingsconsin volunteered the one off his '83 850L, so I went to his place to get it. Got back to where we were stranded in Iowa, found that the two ignitors are not compatible. The '83 unit has the advance curve built in, so they chaned the connector to prevent plugging in the wrong unit.

.

Ah. So im back in the hunt for one with either the original Part number or the superseded number so i can refurbish this bike. Ive been looking for a harness for about 3 years now. Ebay sellers dont think to post pics of the tag so if im not 100 percent sure im not buying. I need either 36610-49410 or 36610-494K0
