If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Just wanting to know if this MUFFLER setup is okay in Australia, in particular NSW.

Having two 17 inch reverse cone mufflers located UNDER the motor and frame area (in front of the rear wheel, basically where the centre stand sits.

Would appreciate any help before i go any further.

Thanks again for your time everyone!

Cant see why it would be legal Dave.

So long as it meets noise regs which it should with dual mufflers.

This is a GS forum! Don't be bringing your filthy honda dreams into here!!!!

Just kidding. Awesome bike! ;D

I cant see a problem?
If you can register a Harley, you should be able to register that.

Definitely not legal, you'd better send the silencers on to me.

This doesn't totally answer your question, but it covers exhausts a bit:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi28.pdf

I seem to recall seeing somewhere that the mufflers must be in line or past the rear axle (??)......but I can't find any info on that.

Bottom line will be if they want to fine you for it, they will on the basis that the exhaust system is not stock / similar to stock. And if it's louder than stock, then that's apparently enough by itself.

I did lots of trawling of ADR's during my build for stuff and worked out my K&N pods are perfectly legal, however I seem to recall somewhere that the exhaust needs to exit behind the rear most passenger on the bike...

However I've seen plenty of bikes on the road with underslung pipes like that... and yeah it does look cool :)

ADR's are not fun to read and are open to certain amounts of interpretation depending on who's reading them too...

Looks like a Ghetto tyre warmer setup to me... ;) :D

I like the bike a lot :)

Only one way to find out!

I thought riding was all about being rebelious and having fun?

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I would like to have everything legal, the bike is currently registered so i cant see tooo much wrong with it.

Appreciate all your help.

I have pulled the bike completely apart down to the frame (remember this is my first project), will see what posts relate to painting the frame. It would not be a showroom bike, but I would like it to make the GS fans proud.

I seem to remember something like that here in US about having to have the muffler go back near the rear axle. It makes sense that, the powers to be, would think like that. I had a bike very similar to that years ago. If I can remember correctly the cones started turning up at an angle just under the shaft for the brake lever.

The criteria I always use for exhaust length is the Harley Sportster.

If you look closely the front cylinder exhaust ends before the pillion passenger and well before the rear axle.

I really like how that bike looks, Its damn dandy!
That being said.
Having the exhaust pointing at my rear tire would make me nervous.
Not from just the heat point of view either.
There are a few things that can go wrong that will cause oil to spray out the exhaust.
Its damn dandy though!
