Yeah great job flyboy, my tail light is also faded and have been experimenting with stuff to freshen up the look. Your process looks like the way to go. Will post some pics when done.

Thanks GED, how are you doing for a seat pan?
I managed to dig my seat out eventualy, my most sincere apologies, for the delay, I just have not had time to get into the garage, been on leave for a week and today is the first day i have managed to get garage time in, also last day of leave. :(
It has a few little rust spots, but no where near as bad as yours, if you still interested, let me know, i will strip the cover and foam off and get a few pics for you, so you can decide if it will work for you.

Ok, so I got some work done today, for the first time in two weeks, although I have been doing things project related outside of the garage, so I get a point there.
Last week I hauled the old brake hoses off to the hydraulics shop and got them to make up a new set, no fancy braided jobs I am afraid, they were just a touch over twice the price  so OEM style it was, but they still nice with their new supple rubber and shiny fittings, got a bunch of new copper washers as well.
Weather being glorious it was a perfect day to lay down some paint, 32C and very little humidity, so wire wheeled and painted the front caliper hangers and the T splitter for the brake lines, redid the headlight bucket, there were a few tiny blemishes, I was not happy with, and tackled the tail light housing, the plastic had faded a sort of yellow with age, so cleaned it up and hit it with some white, now it looks all brand new out the packet again.:D
Did a bunch of other stuff too, not sure what, you know it was one of those days, you been busy the whole day, but it feels like you have got nothing done.
Oh yeah, wire wheeled and pained the brackets for the rear indicators and the brackets that hold the front brake lines away fron the wheel.
once all was dry, I fitter the T splitter and the new front brake hoses, only to find that the idiots at the hydraulic shop fitted the fittings that fasten to the two front calipers 90 degrees out of line, so had to pull the lines off again, and will try to find a gap this week to take them in and have them redo them properly, jeeeez, they even had the samples in front of them, oh well their loss, just irritates me, I have little enough time as it is.
Sorry no pics today, will take pics next sunday of what has been done.
Just getting little odds and sods out of the way did not really seem pic worthy, but it sure does eat up a lot of time. Although she is looking more like a motorcycle every day.
Oh yes also spent a bunch of cash on all new connectors and new sleeving for the wiring harness and a new modern blade type fuse box. It holds six fuses as opposed to the OEM one that holds five, gives me an Aux I guess.
Will have to find a way to mount it properly, although it is not much larger than the OEM one, the mounting holes are on the top and bottom as opposed to the sides as as on the OEM one.
No problem, I will arrange my electrical mounting plate once the harness is done.

That sounds like you've made some great progress Stan! It's those little bits that take up most of the time, and to get a lot of them knocked on the head certainly counts as good progress :D

Stan,
Glad to see you are still at it! How much were the brake pipes? I need to get mine redone soon.

Still at it, just been busy with the family things over Christmas and all, and of course, no one open to go shopping for stuff during the hols.
Paid R1 038.00 for the four of them, I nearly had a gedoente, right there, but I guess they need to be done, and they ain't getting done again as long as I own the bike, so I guess a grand for 30 years service is justifiable.
The braided ones, they wanted over R2 500.00 for, so I passed on them.

I started repairing your seat pan while at work yesterday. the damaged area's were sanded down with 400 and three coats of Epoxy primer laid over the damaged areas. I'll leave it sit for 3~4 days, block it down and wet sand the complete seat bottom. I'll try to arrange a bit of booth time towards the end of the week so I can spot in the damaged areas and re-clear it once again. this time the booth better be cleaned or I'll have some words with the manager! ;) (helps a bit when it was his computer I just worked on)

see, you did more than you thought you did! ;)

Hi Dale
eish, still a ways to go, but I must admit it feels and looks good, hanging bits back on againit is quite creepy how all your work over a year and a half creeps up on you and blidsides you against the side of the head.
I have had all the parts in a milk crate and the smaller ones in labled coffee cans, I have been using the box your bits came in for the parts done and that just need to be hung back on the bike, yesterday I looked and the milk crate was nearly empty and the fedex box full, so I guess I must be half way there.:dancing:
Of course the little odds and sods and tidying up and tweaking will take as long as refurbishing all the bits has.

Ons sal nog daar uitkom ou friend, ons sal nog daar uitkom. ;)

good work flyboy!

hope this helps with fitting your new fusebox:

Hi Psy, yep I think that the electrical panel is going to end up being something just like you have there, thanks for the pic, I think it may be slightly larger, but not by much, a few millimeters each way is all.
If I have to drill another hole, so be it, not the end of the world.
I like where you put your relay, where did you move your ignitor to, on mine in stock layout, the ignitor sits where you have your relay.

i posted the pic because i though your panel would be exactly the same as mine but apparently not?? my rr is under the battery box. factory placement.

I cannot recall the price I was quoted here a few years back, but it was about R290.00 each excluding VAT. Once my budget has recovered after the festive season I will do some bargaining with them!

Yes, Psy my R/R is also under the battery box, I am talking about the ignition ignitor.

Andre, see what they say, I will shop around a bit here as well, and if I can get them cheaper here, I have no problem having them done and popping them in the mail down to you.

Stan,
Thanks, I think I will have them done here, its not worth the bother, but now I have some bargaining power!
I just tell them that the people from up North who are down here every festive season are much cheaper!

oh, of course, i completely forgot about the ignitor - you're right thats where it WAS, but the new Dyna S ignition i bought sorted that out - no more big black box on that panel...

Hey Psyguy, that fuse box, is it a blade type? And if so do you have a part name so I can look it up. I like the look of that one and it beats using glass fuses.

Paul

yup blade type - the ONLY aftermarket fuse holder you can buy in stores in NZ, lol...

"Narva" brand

i'll see if i can google some images

Ok, another Sunday come and gone and a bit more work completed on Jennifer.
Took the new brake pipes, that had the unions fitted the wrong way, and got them to remake them, which they did, no questions asked, so i fitted them today, the fit is perfect.

And, no, I did not hide any dirty old hardware behind the triple clamp trim, even painted the splitter and fitted new bolt.

I think I will need a new one of these though, unless I only fill it half way.

Got the rear fender mounted

Cleaned it all up, and resprayed the housing, will reassemble next weekend and fit to the bike.

Fitted the tail light, all nice and white again, after repainting, it was faded a dark yellow.

And with the lense, it was full fo scratches and general wear and tear, sanded and polished it up, I think it came out pretty nice, better than new...
