    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok, so here is my bike as it stands now, with a GSXR front and rear conversion and a shortened rear (+ reworked wiring, 530 conversion, yada yada). just need to finish the seat, gauges and fit new brake lines. Whadja think?
 
Nice work! I like the look of the headlight from the low angle shot ... hard to judge it from the front view but looks good overall. One of these days I might get more daring with the work on my bike but for now I'll leave the major mods to others!! :lol:;-)

My only question/concern is that in bad weather (which I know you won't often experience) it looks like road debris is going to get into all the nooks and crannies in the rear and be a b*tch to clean up. Is there a way to add a lip to your custom fender that would continue to give you the look you're going for while still allowing most of the grime to drip back off the bike?

How's it handle with the newer pieces versus the stock setup?

It's true, there are a few more nooks & crannies than I'd like, but I'm a total fair-weather biker. I don't ride in the rain if I can help it. I'm considering a small hugger to go on the swingarm, but that probably won't help the licence plate area much... who knows, I may redesign that piece next year.

Still need to finish some bits & pieces before I ride it.

Very nice, very clean. I like how simply you made the rear set conversion. Probably deserves a close up and some details. The low, wide radials add alot to the overall GS look.

Have you driven it much? I'm finding the GSXR front end and modern swingarm really make the GS handle better than I thought was possible. The single rear shock must be better still.

gauges will be either a GPS or an acewell unit or similar

Is that a factory GSXR headlight or aftermarket? Looks downright mean. Also, where did the rear blinkers come from? You've done some nice work.
 
The headlight is a Europe-only Yamaha FZ6n - cost a pretty penny and was a bit of a hassle to get here, but I like it.. :-D

Haven't weighed the bike yet, but I imagine it's quite a bit lighter - wheels & suspension, as well as a lot of metal cut off. Also lost a lot of wires when I simplified the wiring harness.
 
That looks great! I love the stripped down streetfighter look. Good work. Where are the forks/rims/brakes from?

just kidding - the front is 94 GSXR USD that I got from Katman (thanks Rob!), and the rear is 04 GSXR600 swingarm and 04 CBR600RR shock from ebay.
 
txironhead, I forgot to answer your question about the turn signals - they're from a 2004 Buell Lightning, believe it or not. Apparently they're Italian design, and the same as used on some Ducati's or Moto Guzzi's - can't remember. Anyways, they're cheap, and I like the styling of them.

When I set out to build this bike, this was my inspiration:

Of course I won't be doing the trellis swingarm, nor the tractor engine, nor the underseat exhaust, nor the ..... ok, maybe I just liked the bars, mirrors and turn signals...:-D
 
The bike came out excellent. I would have stayed with twin shocks though, I think it works better with the "old school-ness" of the GS. Everything else is great.
 
Yeah, I like both styles, to be honest. I had ZRX shocks on it last summer. I suppose I could have looked for a bandit swinger, but in the end, I can weld the frame myself, so that's what I decided to do.
