DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Picked up this '83 GS1100E last week for $425. Motor runs great but leaks oil from every cam seal. Has some electrical gremlins: idiot lights for headlight, sidestand, taillight stay on when running. Charging system seems to keep the battery fully charged, though. Starter button does not actuate the starter, but it starts immediately when I use a screwdriver to short across the solenoid terminals. Air forks are shot--someone probably used a gas station air chuck to (over) inflate them. Can't decide whether to part it out or put it back on the road.

I have a photo, but can't figure out how to resize it to attach it here.

Greetings and Salutations,

A wiring harness cleanup, a new valve cover gasket, new fork seals, a few other maintenane items, and you could have a dream vintage bike. ;)

If you are here you probably have a 30 year old motorcycle that needs about 20 years worth of maintenance. In the links below you'll find maintenance lists, documentation, wiring diagrams, "how to" guides, vendor links, tips, tricks, and a whole lot of GS goodness. This is your "mega-welcome". Let's get started. :)

Let me dump a TON of information on you and share some GS lovin'. :D

I just stopped by to welcome you to the forum in my own, special way.

Mr. Cliff: Thank you! The links you have provided will be invaluable. I just found the GS1100 wiring diagram on your site, and as soon as I can enlarge parts of it and print it out my battle with the electrical gremlins will begin! Again, thank you for the great info. It will be of tremendous assistance to me.

Welcome!

Welcome!

Picked up this '83 GS1100E last week for $425. Motor runs great but leaks oil from every cam seal and somewhere around the front crankcase mating surfaces. Has some electrical gremlins: idiot lights for headlight, sidestand, taillight stay on when running. Charging system seems to keep the battery fully charged, though. Starter button does not actuate the starter, but it starts immediately when I use a screwdriver to short across the solenoid terminals. Welcome!

A bargain bike that runs for $425...NICE!

And it's an 1100 too. I paid $475 for my GS750TZ and was extremely happy I did.

Good to see the WELCOME message as well...good on you BassCliff!

What can't you figure out? Load the pic onto your profile after you establish a photo album...then copy the BB Code link and paste it to your reply.

After seeing the pic, I second my opinion on not parting it. In fact I think that was a steal. Looks like a great starting point for a resto or do the required maintenence and run as it is. You may want to lose that sidewinder pipe so you can turn though.

I agree!!! What a great find! Enjoy it as it is or restore? you cannot lose either way.

Welcome to the site, good find, I didn't see that on Clist.
I'll third the, don't part it out sentiment, if you have a clear title.
If not, call me first, I have an '82 roller that will need a lot of parts, an engine being one of them.
I'm on the other side of the river in Lake Mary.(moving from Longwood as I type)
If you want to contact me, send a PM( Private Message) and GSR will notify me with an email.

Steal!

Steal!

Whoa!

You got that for $425???:biggrin::biggrin:

That was Fantastically fortunate. I am very envious of that deal! (Not really but Wow!)

This is the second bike I've seen with those type of pipes.

Definitely not recommending you parting this bike out.

Thanks for the pic...really sweet bike!

Looks good. Looking at the rear caliper stay, appears to not be the round unit. If so, is the rear wheel perhaps a 3.5 inch GS1150 transplant? Is the front wheel a 16 inch piece?

And welcome to the site as well.

You didn't see it on CL, Rick, because I was at his garage with cash about 20 minutes after he posted it on the Daytona List!

Welcome to GSR from another Florida member. I am about an hour south if you need any help.

you are correct.
looks like a 3.5 rear and the front looks like an 83 750/84-86 700 16" front wheel.
