    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Started the rebuild of my 1978 GS750E and thought I'd post some pictures of where it stands. Right now the frame is about 1/4 sandblasted but I have rebuilt a few parts as I removed them. The goal is to have a "restored" bike that looks close to new when finished. I'm sure that will make the anti-caf? crowd happy! Sorry, I can't seem to get my pictures to show the right way. (operator error, I'm sure!) Anyway this is what the garage looks like with a GS750 completely apart in it!

This is a few of the rebuilt parts that have been completed so far. I've completely rebuilt all the calipers and the airbox has been sealed. All the parts have been painted with caliper paint.Completed Suzuki Parts 1-13-17.jpg

Started with this.....27,700 miles. Got all the mechanicals in shape before the teardown. Put about 200 miles on it to be sure it would run.

Frame painted, finally!

Frame painted, finally!

Finally got my frame painted. Went with paint instead of powder coating because of the price, and ease of touch up. Now to start putting this thing back together!

Making some headway on this finally. Work takes me all over hells-half-acre every other week so time to work on the bike is hard to come by! Anyway, got the rear wheel assembly mocked up. Still waiting on a few goodies before buttoning it up. (brake lines, locking washers, shocks, etc.) Hope to have a rolling chassis ready by the end of the month.

Roller finally!

Roller finally!

Finally got something that I can roll in and out of the garage while I restore it further! Making some progress........slowly. Hope to get the engine cleaned up and back in the frame in the next couple of weeks.

Nice rebuild! What is caliper paint? Sorry...I rebuilt my MC/Caliper and the brake fluid ate away the paint. Is this caliper paint supposed to prevent that?

P.S. I don't get why your pics are upside-down either.
 
Thanks Ed. Yeah, it is paint that is specially made for brake calipers. I think I bought it at Advance Auto or Autozone. You have to bake it at 200 degrees F after it dries to cure the paint. It is "supposed" to be resistant to brake fluid. Haven't had to test that yet! I'm sure others on here have used it and maybe can give you some feedback on how it works.

Got the engine partially blasted today, hopefully I can get it painted this week. Also got the coils cleaned up and installed. Not much accomplished, but every little bit helps!

Finally got the engine painted and the cam covers polished. Will be polishing more tomorrow. Slow go in the garage these days! Hope to have it finished by the 4th of July.

You may be able to rotate your phone 180 degrees. If my home button isn't on the right side it will take upsidedown pictures. If that doesn't work you can edit the pictures to rotate them before you post them.

Nice job so far. What kind of paint did you use on the engine?

It is VHT aluminum engine paint. Never used it before, hopefully I can get it cured correctly!

The p.o. of my '82 rattle canned the engine to cover oil stains to sell. I saw through it immediately but bought the bike anyways. I later found the seals between the tranny and secondary drive need replaced so while its apart I want to blast and paint. Yours looks like I want mine to look. Nice job.
 
Thanks AMK! That's the thing, my pictures are right side up when I attach them to the post, them they get changed during the attachment process. Oh well, computer challenged is better than mechanically challenged!
 
Wrong emblems????

Wrong emblems????

I ordered both of the crankcase emblems from partsoutlaw.com and they sent the ones that are black and gold colored. I'm pretty sure the original emblems were just black and chrome colored. Anyone know of a source for the correct emblems or am I stuck with these? It looks like they have superseded the part numbers that I ordered. I believe the ones that I received are for a later year bike.

Are you using a hosting service for your pictures?

If photobucket, copy the "Direct" image and uncheck the box when posting the link.

The system turns the pictures the correct way up.

BTW nice job on the bike, and VHT is my favourite paint, I use SP127 on the engine (Universal Aluminum) and use a couple of heat cycles to cure it.

I took a black and gold emblem and polished the gold back to the raw aluminum and got the black background with silver SUZUKI, not perfect but it works.

These are the ones off the bike and is what I was hoping to get but these are the ones that Parts Outlaw shipped. (top ones in the picture)

Here's the gold & black one I got and I polished it out to get this, I should have masked it before polishing as I lost a bit of the black around the edges.

The ones posted above Black and Silver are not available anymore, there is a company in the UK that sell a decal that is printed on vinyl and it looks good, but not the same as the real deal.

by what magic are you able to have your covers attached without fasteners? be it witchcraft? the iron horse has a hex on it.;)

It's a new type of invisible fastener that I got from McMaster Carr.

No Hex on these, I only use JIS.:cool:

Thanks for the info. Looks like more time polishing......ugh! This OCD does not help with a total rebuild! I may never get finished!
