    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Locktite and oil filter cover studs

Hi All,
I am getting ready to put three new studs in my block and would like to know which locktite to use. I want the nuts to come loose and the studs to stay put, but I don't want them to stay forever. Please advise. Also, do I have to drop the bottom off my case to install a thread insert for my drain plug.

I would use the red stuff, stud and bearing mount.
I also would drop the pan to install a helicoil.
 
They're threaded into an aluminum block -- blue is sufficient.

Red will tear up the aluminum if you have to replace them again.
 
yeah definitely use the blue - as you WILL be replacing them in the future. In fact save yourself some time and order at least 3 each of the studs and acorn nuts..................they strip really easy and you don't want to let an oil change last a month while you're waiting on a new stud or nut cause you didn't have a spare.
 
put RED on the inner part of the studs.

when removing the studs after the loctite has set up, a propane torch will be necessary to heat the case and stud to melt the "glue" and will come out easily. not a lot of heat is necessary just a little. Red will tear up aluminum if heat is NOT USED. just a tip how to properly remove the tough thread glue.

I use red loctite to hold in the helicoil too. just a drop and wait until it is dry to put the case bolt back into it
