DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does anyone have experience with the MAC 4-2 system? Dennis Kirk has them, besides these only the 4-1 is available from V&H which I don't like. Anyone know of any other manufacturers?

What's "wrong" with the V&H pipe? :-k

I am reasonably sure you can get a MAC 4-1, also, instead of the 4-2.

.

It's not that I think V&H is no good, I just prefer 4-2 exhaust. What I was asking, is if anyone knows where to get 4-2 exhaust, and if the MAC 4-2 system is good.

I've recently bought a MAC 4-2 system purely for the headers. The quality of the chromeplating is ordinary, and the turn-out mufflers are hideous beyond belief. The headers fitted without any drama so that's a small blessing.

You get what you pay for. I'd pay big money for a stainless 4-2 system but they don't exist.

I think the Vance and Hines is not very good. I have no experience with the MAC 4-2 system but I will say the Delkevic 4-1 Stainless Steel system is about the best thing you could do for your bike. I switched my Vance and Hines 4-1 street pipe for the Delkevic and gained power in the entire power band. After a little tweaking of the carburetors I took my bike up to the local motorcycle speed shop and asked the owner (who had told me the GS1000 was his choice of bike back in the day) what he would charge me to tune it. He looked it over and told me it was running as good as it could with factory carburetors and I would be wasting my money having him tune it. He also said I had done a good job of it. I'll take his word for it, He is Larry "Spiderman" McBride. I never could get the bike to tune like that with the V&H system. All that and it's a lot quieter.

Nothing I guess......if you like the megaphone...I do not.....personal preference. I didnt like the megaphones short length, or their look. The closer to the rider exit location always seemed to make it noisier in my helmet.

My first GS (83 1100e) came to me with a Mac. The openings in the baffle were maybe the size of a nickel, and arranged to force the exhaust and noise into an S turn in the canister. I made a straight thru type of baffle with some exhaust tubing, reducers and the internal part drilled full of holes to kill off some noise. It made a noticeabe seat of the pants power increase, with only mildly increasing the noise. I deemed it acceptable for night riding in the quiet neighborhood where I grew up.

Mac's don't fit as nice as V&H they always seems bit off bolting them up, at least on the two I have used, otherwise I think the ceramic finish and welds seem great and have held up for many years on mine. I don't know about their chrome.
I Love megaphones I think they are classic looking, but I TOTALY agree the noise ends up way to close to the rider.
I also like the 4 into 2 look on the older GS's, another classic look to me.
That Delkevic exhaust looks like a great deal.
