I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I'm looking to overhaul the master cylinders and calipers on my 81' GS1100 and 79' GS850GN and was wondering if the aftermarket has some good affordable quality rebuild kits available that someone here has used?

thanks, Pat

Yeah, the overwhelming answer is, indeed, "no", but I am one of the few that has gotten lucky.

Petcock rebuild kits also seem to only have about a 10-15% success rate, which is why we suggest getting new ones.

Get an OEM rebuild kit, save the aggravation that is so common with the aftermarket kits.

.

OEM parts only.

Cheaper, more complete, AND higher quality, believe it or not.

That said, some of the older OEM kits are NLA, so you have to order parts a piece at a time or hold your nose and try to make the imitations work.

K&L replacement kits are the most affordable and in every bike in my garage . all my bikes are old enough to have caliper / master cylinder rebuilds.

what you are looking for is a common on the shelf part # - at least at the shop I work at.

I know for a fact K&L rubber seals in my gs1150 calipers are almost a dozen years old. and the hydraulic clutch rebuild on my bandit is 1 year old -- K&L brand - it is a quality go-to that a good mechanic can stand behind.

the failures I observe, come from pitting in the metal where the rubber is supposed to seal against in fuel taps / rear calipers. a tiny ball hone will not always cut out porosity from oxidation
