    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Methods to Free a Stuck Clutch

Hey All,

I think I have a stuck clutch on my GS 1100 G. I have never been able to get it on the center stand and am wondering if there are any other methods to free it up the clutch?

Define "stuck" please. Stuck engaged or disengaged, or stuck as in the tranmission/wheel will not turn.

If stuck engaged (typically this will mean that you can get it running but it will stall as soon as you drop it in to gear with the clutch lever pulled in). Check the cable for adjustment and make sure you are pulling enough cable to disengage the clutch. If you find that the cable is working like it should and adjusted free length is good then get a big neighbour or family member to put it on the centre stand and drain the oil and pull the clutch cover. You can undo the clutch bolts (evenly and carefully back them out two turns then a half turn in) and remove the pressure plate. If the clutch is "stuck" from having the bike sit too long then your steel plates and drive plates will be stuck together in a big stack. Simply, and gently, pry them apart from eachother keeping them in the same order and direction that they came out. If this is what your "stuck" turns out to be then the plates will come apart like slices of frozen bread or eggos right out of the freezer. You should be able to pry them apart with your hands (the tabs on the drive plates are handy for this). Don't force any tools between the plates as you may scratch/gouge the discs.

You can leave the oil in there & do it on the sidestand if you want... you'll only lose a few drops.

If the clutch lever is not rebounding (unlike Dennis Rodman) it's probably the cable.
