A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hi
please help  before i pull out the remaining hair i have :o
my 1979 gs850 running the original mikuni carbs VM26SS (i think ) will not run without choke as soon as i push the choke in its like hitting the kill switch the engine dies instantly.:(

Okay, it won't run without the choke because your carbs are clogged.

More info is needed.

New project bike?

Was it running?

Have you supposedly cleaned the carbs?

Replaced O rings?

Intake boots?

Did you go to the VM carb cleanup page and do all of that and more?

In my best W. Shatner....."We......need......more......info....."

If this bike is coming out of a deep sleep the first two things that are req'd, IMHO, is clean the carbs and adjust the valves. While your learning and accomplishing these two maintenence items, you'll learn alot more about your bike and what it needs. Use the search feature and read, read, read. And check this out. http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/images/vm_carb_rebuild.pdf

And welcome !!!!!:)

i have also fitted a boyer electronic igniton system new plugs new leads.

Can you squirt carb cleaner in the pilot circuit and have it come out the openings on the other end?
Are all the holes in all the jets clear?

Could be somthing silly like you haven't adjusted your slow run high enough. When on the choke, open the throttle a bit and switch the choke off - if it runs that could be the (very simple to cure) problem.

However, I suspect you've done that, in which case it's clogged jets or passageways in there somewhere - you need to be really scrupulous with the cleaning and check everything is completely clear before re-assembling. If you've got eyesight like mine invest in a magnifying glass - I bought one last year, a great investment at 99 pence!

I guess you've also got the airfilter plumbed in? If not she'll be running way too weak and cut out. Similarly if your carb to head rubbers aren't 100% you'll have the same symptoms (plus the rubber O rings need to be in good shape as well).

Whereabouts are you over here by the way - worth popping it in your signature as you might have one of us just around the corner. And welcome to the nuthouse.
