    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

More wheel weights

I had a couple of wheels lying around and I decided to weigh them:cool:
First 2 front wheels: a 19" spoked wheel with later GS 1000 disks and a GSXR 750 G 18" wheel with chinese disks.
And the winner is...GSXR 750 at 11.6 kg versus GS 1000 at 13.4 kg
Next 2 rear wheels: a 2.5*18" GS 1000 S and a 3.5*17 GS 1150 both with disks.
The winner is....GS 1000 S at 15.6 kg versus GS 1150 at 16 kg.
Not much difference considering the 1150 had a 130 tire versus the 120 on the 1000:)

Neat stuff to know. I would have thought (GSXR 750 at 11.6 kg versus GS 1000 at 13.4 kg) there would have been a greater difference between them - more for the steel rim and less for the cast. But that difference alone in unsprung weight is a world of difference. However, I'm stuck in the spoke era and will always lean towards spokes for looks.

A big part of the weight difference on the front is probably due to the more modern rotor. Of course a real parameter for comparison is the moment of inertia. If the weights of the wheels are the same without rotors then the probably have similar moments of inertia as well. Moments of inertia referees to the Sum of weight at a distance from center of rotation.

The moment of inertia will hurt acceleration and braking for sure!
In fact I had measured the front wheels previously without the disks ( but with the tires). Here we go:
GSXR 750 G ( 18*2.5): 8.6 kg
GS 750 spokes: 9.9 kg
GS 1000 E cross spoke: 10 kg
GS 1100 Kat 3*2 spokes: 10.9 kg
GSXR 1100 K ( 17*3.5) : 9.8 kg
I believe there is no lighter production front wheel than the GSXR 750 F/G!
The same goes for the rear by the way:cool:
