My '78 750

Hello, long-time lurker, finally signed up. I've been reading this forum for about 2 years now, all starting with a $100 GS850 I bought from my roommate. Got that running and sold it, bought a 77 GS750 for $600 that my dad has taken ownership of. Currently working on my own '78 750E that I picked up for only $50, looking to squeeze in a 1000 if I can find one.

Dang Hemo, You seem to be a pretty thrifty (cheep) shopper. Pretty decent mechanic to, getting them cheep things up and going. Congrats, You do know, if you've been lurking, WE LIKE PICTURES. You thinking GS1000 eng. in that $50 750E, or finding a thrifty (cheeep) GS1000 bike? Either way welcome.

Haha yeah that's part of the fun for me, hunting for deals. That's the only reason I got into Suzuki's in the first place! Facebook Marketplace -> Motorcycles -> Under $1000 haha. I worked on Cars a lot in high school so the mechanical intuition has carried over into motorcycles a bit. Looking for (and have found!) a cheap gs1000 to use as a donor bike to do the swap into the $50 750. I found one that I'm checking out this weekend. It's all there but is in rough shape cosmetically and has no title. SCORE. No title means I don't have to feel guilty about not restoring the 1000 instead of gutting it lol.

Here is the $50 GS. Had a "Seized motor" that I fixed in about 15 min with some mystery oil and a wrench on the stator bolt/crank bolt.

Thrifty! That's a lot of bike for $50. and I like your dad's sidecover-bags-a Nice solution to missing sidecovers. There's another member here who had that leatherworking skill...

Thanks guys! Yeah the leather bags are pretty useful too, I bought a set of metric wrenches from harbor freight, flat and Philips (i know, use JIS) screwdrivers that live in those bags. Throw in a Clymer manual in a ziplock bag and you’ve got just about everything you need for on the road repairs. I think they’re going to be replaced by proper covers though, as my dad is more into the clean cafe, instead of the rougher brat look the bike has right now with the flat seat and bags.

You know about the JIS, that's good. If you dn't have them, a cheap impact driver will work wonders to protect those phillips heads.
