DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

haha, i know what you're thinking.... that's what she said, right?

but seriously, i had this bike given to me and its been neglected/chopped up/rigged and im trying to get it back together and road worthy.

my question comes with a picture:

this is with the choke cable fully seated up on the triple, and the gang lever pulled as far up as i think it goes (choke travel is ~1/16", gang travel is ~1/2", right?) and its no where near fitting. the end of the cable should pull past the round guy in the pic, slide in, and engage. mine doesnt even come close.

it wouldnt surprise me if this motor wasnt factory, but i leave it here to be dissected. why oh why doesnt my choke cable go where it is supposed to? i followed the routing (although peculiar, from what ive read/seen its correct) and even tested to see if there was a hangup in the cable, but it worked fine both ways.

so there it is, gentlemen. help the kid out.

i think you're right. it wouldnt surprise me if the carb rack had been replaced with something other than stock.

does the linkage look right? i dont have anything to base it off of, but my first guess was that it was the wrong cable.

I would bet the end that goes thru the frame is broken, limiting travel

Linkage looks different from what I've seen on my VM29 carbs and VM22 550 carbs. Not sure what's going on there.

Their is a 6-8" hard plastic piece (part of the cable)that goes thru the steering head. Unscrew it from the frame to remove it & examine it.If it is broken it could be jammed making the outer part of the cable seem longer, making the inner cable too short

ah, and i assume if its broken i have to replace it.

maybe its a choke cable for a later model with CV carbs...
center pull through the triple clamp stem, right?

Here's another idea. Check your throttle grip. I have seen people put the end of the cable in the wrong hole in the grip. There will be 2 possible grooves for the cable, you need to make sure you're using the right one.

understood, but what does that have to do with the choke cable?
