I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

my regulator modification

Well I just replaced my 82 GS750's r/r with a shindengen 232-12 from a 78 Honda CB400A, and it seems to be working fine.

I used the
yellow - yellow
yellow - white/red
yellow - white/blue
red/white - red
black - switched orange on the bundle plug going into the fuse box
green - ground straight to the battery

...as was noted by the scotsman with 90,000 miles.

I only ran it for a few seconds in my garage because the door was closed, but the battery (which was fully charged by a tender just before I cranked it) was showing 13.3 volts after a few seconds at 4,000rpm, and was climbing at a rate of a tenth of a volt every 2 seconds or so.

I'll likely report back if it works better later. This may also have solved my blowing igniter problem. We'll see.

Yep, it's still working. The bike is now charging at 14.3 at idle and 15.4 at 7 grand. That's a huge improvement over the mid 13 volt charges I was getting across the board with the suzuki regulator.

Mmm... boiled batterys... tasty...

But seriously... I have noticed that some people bypass the "headlight switch loop" and connect all 3 stator leads to the R/R, and others keep the stock configuration. Whats the difference? Do those of you that have the 3 stator leads to the R/R notice a difference in charging? And what happens if I turn off my headlight if its hooked up stock?

Since it's the ultimate upgrade for our machines,...perhaps a sticky is in order?

I'm glad I found this thread.
I'm going to look at a 79 gs550 tonight with a charging problem that sound just like the topic in this thread.

double bump!

So it would seem that bypassing the headlight switch loop is the thing to do. It sounds like some people are a little "Iffy" on what to do. Should I go ahead and link all three R/R yellow wires to my stator and bypass the headlight switch loop?

I just purchased a 1978 Honda CB400A (SH232-12) and will be using it on my 80 GS550L. The guy who owned it before me thought the stator was bad. I discovered that it had no R/R at all. I am excited to get the bike up and going!

I just bypassed mine, and it did help some. My regualtor is still iffy, and right now waiting for one from EBAY to get here. I cant get over about 13.4 volts at 3K, and 12.58 at 5k, and all this with a new stator as well. but it was slightly lower when I had that extra loop crap hooked up.

Would someone please explain how I bypass my left handlebar switch on my 82 gs650e. Please and thank you

To make your charging system live...

1st, buy a real deal Shindengen SH775 & Triumph jumper harness to hook it up.

Then, wire it like this...
