    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I haven't posted any pictures of me or my bike. Here is my remote gas tank set up. Works great. Almost free. I got a discarded snowblower gas tank and I hooked it up to my unused garage door puller. It hangs down and can be adjusted to different heights.

It seems like I have to add posts to add pictures. So I will.
 
I guess it's just me, but I always found it easier to just get a couple feet of additional tubing and connectors and set the gas tank on something next to the bike.

I'd do that, but I am sure I would knock the sucker over. I like this set up because I can't even bump my head on it (but I am pretty short:-)). I guess its whatever works.

Great idea. I would shorten the hose, salvage a small plastic gas tank from the dump with a fuel shutoff valve, and bungee it to the main tube area by the forks while working on the bike.
Thanks for the main idea!... next trip to the dump before the other local forum users beat me to it.....
 
Free is great. My only concern on the front end is heat. You'll have to watch where the fuel hose goes. But what you said gave me another thought. How about rigging it up by where the seat is taken off...he, how about that :D. that way it's a straight shot over the battery and air box right to the carbs!

I may try that and snap some photos.

Nessism has a length of 3 inch pipe about 2 feet long with a cap & a nipple..... just prop it up on the bike frame & tape to the handlebars.

Works great.

Almost free.....

the weight of the fuel in a pipe that long will affect the carbs when balancing this is the reason i use a small plastic bottle plugged directly into the feed pipe on the carbs & top up as needed :D
 
If you're talking about the setup I described I disagree... we only put about 6 - 10" of fuel in it & it fixes to the carbs own fuel pipe, no extension needed. It's about as close to having a tank sat on the top as you can get!

The long pipe from tank hanging from the ceiling I get but unless the pressure is high enough to overcome the float needle valves I can't see how even that would affect it? (but that doesn't mean it doesn't, just I can't see it!! :D )

What's your thinking??

hi salty i'm not talking about you short pipe setup :-)

pressure fron that weight of fuel running unregulated by the small holes in a fuel tap as in the pic above will affect the carb balance & setup, ive tried it & then tried again with my normal setup getting different readings both times & it does tell you somthing about this in most manuals, i presume as you do that the weight affects the floats but i'm not sure tbh i just know it can do something odd
 
I agree. My set up wasn't perfect, but notice in the picture with me standing by the bike; the fuel line drops to level, then I have a fuel filter that connects the remote tank hose to my fuel line off the carbs. The line is just below level and actually has to go up a little. So when I adjust the petcock on the fuel line, fuel just trickles past the filter and the pressure/flow is greatly reduced.

I am changing my set up though to be shorter and even more simple.
