If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • This forum is for placing reviews for parts, accessories, gear and service as it relates to your GS motorcycle. The key here is "GS Related". There is a bit of latitude here but we don't want to see a review on Maytag washers just because that's what you use to clean your riding jacket in.

Keep your review as factual as possible and please refrain from personal attacks. Posted articles will be reviewed by the Editors and may be removed at their discretion.

So let's make this a useful addition to the forum! A special pat on the back goes to Hap Call for coming up with this great idea.

Need cables for your bike? This is the place

So looking at dealer prices for cables and seen people offer old ones of questionable condition for $10 a piece I have been trying to find a better option. Go figure there is a place that is in the same building I play indoor soccer that sells cables. I checked out the site and they ship as well as take online orders. Most of them are $11 a cable with a few like the 2 part clutch cable on the 850 going for $16 a cable. Basically you can get new cables at used cable prices.

I am picking up a speedo cable for my 650 tonight and will update you on the quality and fit.

Do they do custom lengths? I would like a set of custom length throttle cables for my 1000... :)

Given that 80% of us change bars out for Daytona's or superbike or Euro's all of which could really use a shorter cable (although you can get by with stock) I would think there is a reasonable demand....

Wow- those are some great prices.

Only because I haven't seen it mentioned: have you guys checked out Motion Pro for custom cables? They are made to order (and expensive) but they do come with a lifetime guarantee.

I remember reading a few posts here a couple years ago about motion pro not being a great reliable cable. Because of that I only have been getting OEM cables. I'm not sure if this is still the same thought around here???

I gave the guy a call and explained I have an L model but have daytona bars and he was very knowledgeable on the bikes and could find me a shorter cable but reminded me for the speedo it wouldnt matter :p

Anyways the cable is made by "parts unlimited" as the manufacturer and fit great. Not sure if you can get better deals online but to find a local shop that had it in stock for that price was great.

Well I thought I had ordered a new tach cable from Z1 along with new front pads and some cable lube (Tired of my tach cable breaking after a few hundred miles as happened twice now with Z1 cables)
The package came on friday, no cable in the box. I checked my order. I forgot to order it :o.

I figured I'd try these guys, ended up saving two bucks on the cable. :dancing:

I'm in need of new cables since I still have L cables on my bike with new Daytona bars :dancing: (also thinking about new mirrors since the originals give a lovely view of my shoulders now).

Too bad they list a GS550M throttle cable but not a clutch cable. They take Paypal, too. Dang. Don't seem to be any options for choke cables, OEM or other.

I've gotten a few "Parts Unlimited" brand parts. Think my current cables are PU, no problems but they're only about a year old. I got two PU plug caps for my outboard cylinders last year when one of the originals went bad (that's all I could get locally at the time). They were supposed to be 5k but both measured no resistance at all out of the package. That's OK, but one already went bad. All have been replaced with NGK caps now.

Guess it's time to place that OEM cables order.

How fast of shipping do they have? I'm impatient and want to get my bike running again!

Give them a ring, they are a small shop with an actual store front. Typically when you can get the owner with a phone call your odds go up immensely for good customer service. Also glad to see a few others gave them a try, I didnt have to wait on shipping since its local but its nice to see my speed again and also trip meter is pretty important for me tracking the fuel as it reads empty around 2 gallons in on a 3 gallon tank.

SkateGuy, I too have switched my 650GL (1981) over to Daytona bars recently, but haven't gotten new cables yet.

Can you tell me which cables you got specifically from Goldwing? If you know the part #s that would be great, but the model of bike your new cables were originally designed for, would probably help just as much.

Thanks!

Stephen

I am still running the stock length just changed the path to make it fit when I swapped bars. The cable I got from them was for the Speedo and that distance does not change with the bars.
