Hi All,

Just picked up a 85 GS1150e. The bike is in great shape but needs a rear mono shock. I contact Hagon and they said they do not make a shock for that bike. I read that there maybe a Ducati shock I can use. If so which one should I be looking out for.

Thanks
Kelvin,

Hagon does make a shock...

M63087 is their part number. Known as a gsx1100 everywhere but North America.

Salty Monk has the information on the Ducati Shock I believe he installed one on a 750.

Chiming in late but what the hey.....

I had the same issue when i realized how bad my rear shock really was, and my budget didnt allow the Hagon or Wprks option. I started searching for shocks on heavier sportbikes, thinking that shock valving and spring rate would match up better, and then looked for a match in length. What i found was that there are very few that EXACTLY match, but as mentioned, certain Ducati units match up nicely, and are eyelet to eyelet. Somewhere on the interwebs there is a big chart with the dimensions of rear shocks, and i discovered that Hayabusa units will match up for length , but one end is a clevis which will need some widening to fit over the frame bracket, with a new bolt thats long enough. You only need to remove about 2mm of material from each side, which i did with a flat file. I found mine used for $60 and the difference is amazing. It has separate damping and rebound adjuster screws, and preload adjusters for the spring. The preload is kind of a pain but the comp/rebound screws are reachable with a long screwdriver.

It's a monster 900 Shock.

50 bucks & pinwall is a good seller. It works great. You might have to put your stock spring on it (that's what I ended up with on the 750 as the Duc spring was way too stiff). The Duc shock lets you run more preload than stock.
The extra weight of the 1150 & if you're substantially fatter than me (165lb) you might get away with it. You need a couple of 2mm thick washer for one end & might need to file the "split line" for the casting at the top end to clear the rocker. Takes 2 mins.

Be aware it's a bugger to access the damping adjuster after fitting. It's also hard to adjust preload (unless you have a better tool than I did - a punch & hammer ;) )

:)

That's a nice price on that monster shock. When I was looking they were double that for older units. That looks to be air adjustable and rebuildable.

I put a Hagon on my 1984 1150 a year ago, I think it was around $600 clams shipped, from UK with the $150 optional remote preload adjustor.....

Not air adjustable... They just run pressurised nitrogen for anti-foaming I believe.
