New build 1980 gs850g aussie

If you find the bead blasting of the journals to be an issue when you go to fit the camshafts, let me know. I have a spare 1980 '850 head sitting around doing nothing that you can have for the cost of USPS shipping.

Took head and barrels to get bead blasted. The guy said no worries will not glass bead around cam area, sure enough glass beaded everything. I have used 1200 grit paper and smoothed out cam bearing holders and valve cup guides. Lots and lots of fine glass bead everwhere. I have washed the parts down 3 times with soapy water, pressure cleaner and then compressed air. Hopefully I have got it clean, will find out when its put back together, will be a very nervous time.

Looking good Greg! Hopefully that thread repair sorts it out.

I know it's a bit late but I got my cylinders and head wet blasted by a fella in Jimboomba.

Non abrasive so he did everything and not one journal or bearing face or anything was harmed and the finish is awesome. No paint required and if you get grease on it, it literally wipes straight off... even after the engine's been running with it on... all my weeping from the dodgy Athena valve cover gasket is gone after the first wash.

Anyway, looks like you got a good job done with the paint, she's really gonna look the part :D

Lookin' like you should be done in time for the next GSR run too!

Thanks Pete, I did think of the guy down south and had rang him up about it. But for some unknown reason I went with this guy who was alot closer and I probably thought I would save some money.

Looks good on there Greg...I got a line on a center stand i think...will let you know when I confirm.

Thanks Chuck still looking for a centre stand and rear rotor, I am hoping that I will find one local.

Rustybronco that is very generous of you to offer me head for nothing. At this stage I am still got my fingers crossed that everything will be fine.

I have just hit a bit of a hurdle. I purchased a set of piston rings off Boulavard Suzuki which I thought was a standard size for my bike.
PISTON RING SET (STD)
12140-49001

When I finally got them shipped over and putting them up against the old rings I found that they were about 1mm larger. :(

I did see on the parts list RING SET, PISTO
12140-45121 (replaces 12140-45120)
but I thought nah it must be the other ones that have (STD) standard beside them.

Any way I have sent Ashley an email to see if I can send them back and get the other ones. Just waiting for an answer, hopefully it will be ok and they will do it. I have seen other parts sites with the same wording in the parts list. But some I have found where they clearly explain the piston ring set sizes with the part numbers.

Wow bugger on the rings, I would've done the same!

If I'm not sure about something I usually duck over to www.alphasports.com because their fiche is a little better. Their prices are a little out there though...

Great after about 2 months I have the correct piston rings in and fitted. I will make sure I order and double check every thing next time.

Anyway got the seat done. got a cover from the UK and those spikey things that seemed to work great attached to the seat pan.

I then took a loan out and got the seat grab rail rechromed. $70. But I dont think you can get them anymore, so may have been worth it.

Looks awesome Greg!! Definitely worth the rechrome on that grab rail!

Where'd you get the spikey bits from for the seat cover? I looked high and low and couldn't find any and just ended up letting the upholsterer glue the cover on...

Also, you reckon she'll be ready by June? Did you get my PM about the June run? Haven't had much interest yet...

Hi Pete got the seat spike strips from www.pandkclassicbikes.co.uk
They are also on ebay.

Hooking the caravan on and going to Longreach checking out the Stockmans Hall of Fame and the QANTAS museum in June.

Will be ready for the next one.

Taking the beast over to Tranzac this week to get the 4 into 2 exhaust measured up. Will probably be around 3 weeks to get them made up.

Cool thanks for that, will have to bookmark that for the next seat, will probably have a go at covering that one myself as well as doing the foam.

Bugger on the timing again hey? Oh well... I expect we'll probably look at another one September-ish, although the way the activity level is for the June one at the moment the next one might be September-ish anyway

Can't wait to see the exhaust when she's done! Still loving my Tranzac... you going chrome or ceramic?

Going for the chrome exhaust Pete, trying to keep it as original as I can. I wanted the silver coloured tank, but number 1 son talked me into the black paint scheme. I hope this is an original suzuki colour scheme. Towed the bike over to Tranzac and he had it for 2 days whilst he welded up the system. I picked the bike up and he said in about 1 week should have the system back chromed and ready to be fitted.:D

Anyway some pics of the paint scheme.

Got the Motobat au14 battery, very happy with it. Once fitted everything worked no bulbs out. Nothing at the starter though. Found out the solenoid had to be earthed for it to work.

Be sure to post some pic's with the exhaust too, please!

Hey Ged,
Did you end up getting the decals from Joel on the goldy, or somewhere else? Just interested cause i will probably repaint mine.

Mate, I kept ringing him up about 4 times but would never ring me back with an answer. So I found a company in the UK who sent them over for about $94. The company was called the Image Works.

www.the-image-works.co.uk

Thats strange, i rang him about 3 weeks ago about some motoX stickers?
At least you got what you wanted in the end?

Got the exhaust back from Tranzac. It took 7 weeks, the story goes that one of the mufflers when it was chromed a bit of wire marked the side and it had to be redone. Fitted the exhaust and mufflers with help of son and guess what fired up first time love it.

The first start after rebuild. Exhaust and mufflers just fitted from Tranzac. Will take close up pics later. Am getting the carbs sync and tuned tomorrow. Will take pics with tank back on. Roadworthy certificate passed and will go to Department of Transport next week and pick up plate.

Awesome stuff Greg! Real glad you got your pipes and she sounds like she purrs real nice :D

Love the modesty and camera avoidance too, just like me... haha

I also have a very bad feeling I may have missed you off the PM list about the GSR run on Saturday?

http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=191621

If so, my apologies... I thought I'd PM'd everyone but I always seem to miss at least one person... I probably should start a social group we can all join so I don't miss anyone any more...

Thanks everyone, at last finishedddddddddddddddddddddddddd.

Took exactly 9 months. Sometimes things went fast others things had to wait long time. But in the end it has been great fun. Thanks to this site and all the people that helped with advise and parts it has come together.

Lookin' forward to seeing it on the 15th if you can make it!

Hello, nice bike for sure!!! Maybe you can answer my question? Do the blinker lights only blink or do they act as runners and blink? Thanks
