    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok bare with me on this one if you could. I have recently gotten a 82 gc1100ez model. Now I am not fimilar with this bike at all but I have been around bikes for years. It has a blown head gasket and the preivois owner removed the head, and then it sat for about 8 months so he said. I bought a gasket for it and after looking at it this is what I found. head gasket is/ was blown, carbs need ot be cleaned, and there are two broken exaust header bolts in the block, one each for #4 and #3. So what should I do? is it worth the cost to get ti up and running? I realy want to get an xs 650 hard tail. ( yes I know this is a susuki site) I already have a 2000 R1 and an 82 xj 650 ( which is the present project). So the condition of the bike is not bad It is dirty from head gasket. it needs a good cleaning, I have all the parts, gas tank has one dent on the top byt the filler. the seat has no tears I can see and it has 4-1 supertrap exaust. the side panels are there but one has two tabs borken. Basicly I am trying to convince my self that changing the gasket and setting the timing will not be to hard. I have no manual for it so I would have to find one. Any sugestions would be great.
 
If you have some bike experience It wont be that hard to get it running. There is a Pdf file about carb cleaning on the main page under GS garage. Broken bolts suck, but if you have a few special tools and alot of patience, really arent a big deal. If they are flush with the head, try welding a nut on to them. Usually that brings them right out. If they are broken way down in there, you may have to helicoil, which can be a little intimidating, but it really isnt that hard if you take your time and do it right. Once its running, the requisite UJM pandora's box will be open.
 
thanks. I am not a machanic but I can usually fix things if I have the information. I just know my heart is not in it right now but I will have to see what others say. It may be parted out in the near future. The jury is still out.

everything bout carbs, broke bolts & manuals etc etc....

but be warned - If ya gets it goin right - it'll be a love story
