My 1979 GS750 was charging a little low. I could get no more than 13.2 volts out of it, so I did the normal tests including measuring the stator's output (original Suzuki stator). The DC voltage output was a little low as I couldn't get any more than 55 VDC regardless of the engine revs. The battery and RR (new) both checked out ok so I decided to renew the aging stator. The first replacement only put out a max of 13 VDC, measured directly from all three phases. The supplier refunded me on the basis that it was faulty.
I have just fitted another new stator (different manufacturer) and this is even worse with a max output of 11 VDC !
I haven't changed anything else in the system - only the stators. The rotor seems fine and has plenty of magnetic pull when I put the stator cover back on.
Surely, I can't have two faulty new stators.
Any thoughts ?
