Register to access the full functionality of the GSResources forum. Until you register and activate your account you will not have full forum access, nor will you be able to post or reply to messages.

    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello all

I've recently been given a 1979 gs1000s from my dad , he was the second owner from new so he's had it a while.
The bike has been standing for about 10 years in his garage so the time has finally came to restore it and get it back on the road ;)

should I go original or should I do some period mods I hope I'm asking in the correct place

Hi and welcome.
Yes you have come to the right place
This site is an invaluable source of information http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/
You will probably have more than enough to be going on with just to get it running reliably without thinking of mods just yet.
I would suggest you consider getting a series regulator for the charging system to avoid trouble up ahead.
First post in this thread is useful too http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?171846-Top-10-Newbie-Mistakes/page14
And this thread for checking the charging system http://www.thegsresources.com/_foru...System-QUICK-TEST/page4&p=1272192#post1272192

Welcome aboard!

First thing you should do is show us pictures of it as you received it.

Then get her running and show us more pictures!

Does it look like this, by any chance?

Hi all

ill be be starting the rebuild as soon as I'm home from my trip away , thanks for those links Brendan , I've attached a pic of the way she sits just now

Lovely looking bike and a bit of a rarity in the red scheme. Will make a head turner for sure.

Welcome to the site, Ross.
Nice looking S.
Seeing leathers and a track bike in the photo, my vote is to head in the resto-mod direction.
Is that an old Metmachex swingarm?

Glad to see the 1000S in Scotland! Beautiful country, but the weather can be daunting.:p Some of the most amazing classic Japanese bikes I've seen are in Scotland. Yours will fit right in. Don't be shy about keeping us updated with your progress with the bike, and photo's are a must!

Right side up ;)
