    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Newbie needs to know tire size for 83 GS850L

I'll preface this with I'm new to the forum/site today. I can't find traditional tire size for my 83 GS850L. Shows 3.25? and 5.00? I am not familiar with these sizes. Where can I find like 130/70/18 or 170/70/16 sizes that are common when ordering tires. For example I am not familiar with this [TABLE="width: 764"]

Thanks in advance and I appreciate the patience if this has been asked and answered. those tire sizes are for an 80 model can't find what goes on an 83. Thanks
 
You have done a great job of locating GSR and joining. Welcome!

Next step is learning how to find info within the GSR and for that you need to use either the search function or google, with a directed search within www.thegsresources.com

Either way till turn up literally dozens of threads on the exact question you ask.

Short answer: 100/90-19 front and 130/90-17 rear. Avon Roadriders are the forum favorite tire, but there are dozens of different tire choice threads too.

Careful -- the G model takes a 130/90-17 rear, while the '81+ GL model takes a 130/90-16 rear.

Front is 100/90-19 on both.

Here's my '83 G model -- note the front axle is at the bottom of the forks, the larger tank, plastic rear fender, painted front fender, and there's less of a "step" in the seat. 17" rear tire.

Here's an '83 GS850GL (the side cover just reads GS850L for some reason) -- front axle on the front side of the forks, smaller tank, chrome front and rear fender, stepped set. 16" rear tire.

bike2.jpg this is my 83. Just got it and it's got 15,538mi. this was my first bike back in 1995. I've owned 4 bikes since then , my most recent a 2010 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 35,436mi. Carbs have been disassembled and cleaned and are now being reassembled and put back on the bike. I've ordered a windshield and needed ( and got) tire info before ordering 2 new tires. Horn does not work. Got one off of ebay and that one didn't work either? In the process of testing whether it's the actual horn, or switch/horn button or something inbetween. Happy to be part of the group and forum and again I appreciate your help with answering and providing additional info for me.

Here's a site with a size conversion chart. Also tries to help decipher the alphanumeric codes used to describe tire size.

That bike is an L model. Should have a 16" rear wheel unless someone did a swap.

Make sure you check/adjust the valves before trying to put the bike back on the road. Please check the newbie mistakes thread linked in my signature to understand what to look out for.
