If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I'm guessing 4 years. 2700 ft above sea level. I was a bit disapointed with the 115, but it's cold and I suspect the rings are a bit dry of oil. Do you still have that 1100g tank?

Looks good but?

Looks good but?

Sounds like you did the cold and dry test.
Now do another test after putting a teaspoon of oil down the plug holes.
The compression will go way up, unless a valve is leaking, make a note if so.
Also, as the battery weakens and spins the engine slower, the compression numbers get lower.

It's sitting in a well padded box waiting for you to take a peek. ;)
No hurry. All of my other projects are going to be other colors.
I already have 2 black bikes. I like variety.
Again, those are very good numbers and tight between them. (less than 10% difference between cylinders)

Bumping the thread as I'm ready to get going on this bike again. Daniel, your PM box is full. When you have time I'm ready for the tank and a Cowl if you have one. Might even take a ride over your way if the weather is good.

I didn't get any pic's of tail pieces today.
Got Jenny home and started to do some work on the carbs from the GSX1100G.
Tom MLC is in town to check out the Circus and I will be meeting him tomorrow for some rides.
Sending an ignition cover out to a chap in Georgia tomorrow if I can get by the Post Office.
There is a little room in my PM box again for a little while...

I don't mean to rush you. I know your busy. When you have time. Say hi to Tom. Let him know the goat path awaits him (and you). Cheers.

Wait... you *sold* the 450!? Sacrilege!

You are very observant. Gone on the 22th. My 650 is upset, so I need to get the 1100 going to help please her. When someone calls you and expresses an interest and you don't care if it sells or not. That can be an instant when it's the right time to sell. She has covered some of my expenses for my UK trip and I now have more room in my garage to tinker on the big "G".

I'll try not to become one of the "Liter Snobs" and remain true to the"Brotherhood of the Pint". Cheers Pete.

A guy can sure collect parts when they have an old bike. I have a speedo, carbs, seat, rear cowl, seat trim, headlight trim and ears. If I could just find a roller........:p

I'm not surprised your 650 is upset! :p

I understand though, if it's a ho-hum don't mind if it stays don't mind if it goes sort of thing, then possibly best to let her go and the new owner will probably lavish the excitement she deserves instead :)

That's good, don't be a snob Charlie! Hahaha actually I haven't really had that much snobbiness around here, I think it's more lack of interest, and that happens to me the other way 'round occassionally too

Hahhaa you do almost have a spare bike there! Oh and I forgot to tell you not to worry with the seat too, I ordered the foam for $23 on Saturday, so I'll shape that up and get someone to cover it for me. If shipping wasn't so expensive I would've taken you up on it though... thanks again for the offer :)

an upset 650?

wanting to make mine happier. what are you running for oil charl? glad the baby shafty takes less oil than the big ones but the grade and brand are still up in the air.

engel,

I use what someone recomended on the forum, Shell oil, Rotella T 15w-40w. It's susposed to be what these older engines need. I don't know if it's the cat's meow, but I know where to buy it and it's reasonable.

Thanks for checking in on what's not happening. I'm a bit preoccupied trying to make a living at the moment and haven't done much of anything.

What? You mean your GS fund doesn't grow on trees? :p

Good to hear from you though Charlie and will be nice to see some progress when you can get some time into it again :)

Hello to all

Hello to all

I'm getting ready to get back to work on the 1100g. Several has prompted me to get moving or the bike, work picked up, the 650g has an oil leak in the head gasket at cylinder #4, and the fellow who gave me the bike called Tuesday and said he found the title:clap:. The bike is now in my name, I have of money set aside for parts and I haven't got a bike I can ride to Canada next summer, so I guess I'm motivated:confused:. The carbs are where I left them 2 years ago...one cleaned and apart and the rest waiting to be torn down. The last carbs I did were on the 650 and that was 4 years ago. Dang, I need to retrain myself. I am tempted to send them off to Chef , but .......I need to wrench this myself.

If you (engel, pete, bill, steve, johnny?and all) are still interested in this thread, I post up I hope in a week or two (hopefully) if I have something done. I do need a headlight bucket and trim fo it. Cheers (It's in my name!!!!!!!!!Wahoo!):D

Good to hear Charlie. What size headlight does an 1100 use?

It's the same bulb as the 78-80 1000's, 80-83 850's. The housing cross references with 82-83 1100g's and 850g's. I think what's on there now is off a 550 and really isn't big enough to hold all the wiring, has an extra hole chewed in it and the trim ring is dented.
