Not Getting Fuel

I have been trying to fire up my bike for the season and it seems like there is no fuel running into the fuel line. I have been messing with the petcock but it is still not working.

I took the tank off of it this winter and me being a newbie forgot to take not as to what line went where.

Now I also notice that when I try to turn it over she just clicks. They may be due to me trying to boost it.

I do not want to take it to a shop just yet as I know this must be a simple fix.
Any help would be great.

I'd get a new petcock. If the bike is from the 80s it's done it's time.

I have a 1980 GS750 L. I stored the bike inside a heated shop all winter. Emptied the tank (repainted it) When I started it back up last week it did not run. It would turn over but would not fire. After inspecting the fuel line I noticed that there was no fuel getting into the fuel line. I also killed my battery while trying to get it to start. So I hooked a charger up to the battery and tried to start it while messing with the petcock. Now when I try to start it it just clicks instead of turns over.

I hope this info will be more helpfull.

Do you have the gas line and vacuum line hooked up properly ?

The petcock may be the problem. Where is it positioned now ? PRI, ON, RES ?

Check your battery connections, the connections to your starter solenoid, and your leads to your starter. As far as your fuel problem, you may have hooked up your vacum line wrong, or ruptured the diaphram in the petcock. Not sure if this model has vacum to petcock? Check battery voltage level also..

Try the PRI position on the petcock for twenty seconds or so, then back to ON or RES.

PRI is Prime, it will fill your carburetors with fresh gas. Don't ever leave it on PRI, just use it for a few seconds.

Then when you get your battery/starter working it should start right up.

Hi,

Have you read through your "mega-welcome"? What voltage reading are you getting from your battery at rest? What is the voltage reading at the battery when you press the Start button? Have you checked and cleaned every electrical connection and ground, including the fusebox? It usually helps these old electrical systems. Have you gone through the testing and troubleshooting procedures in The Stator Papers? Have you pulled a spark plug to see if you're getting spark? Or just take an extra spark plug, connect it to a plug wire, lay it on the engine to ground it, then crank it and look for spark. Let us know.

take the tank off,get a dish soap bottle,wash it out put in some gas,stick the tip in the (big )fuel hose, the small hose is the prime hose not fuel
and see if you can get her running , charge the battery though, check the fuses as well
DONT- turn it over so long that it melts your wiring harness,or burns up the rectifier!, just fast starts , not long you know

If it's like my "80" 1100, even on pri. you need vacuum to get the fuel flow started, after it starts it will keep going. I think the "80" models were the only ones like that, it was so stupid they changed it pretty quick. Just my opinion

You painted the tank? Check fuel cap, make sure tank is vented...

Wow. I thank every one with all of the advise and help. I am amazed at the responses I get. nd even more impressed that I was not ridiculed for my incompetance. Thanks everyone. I will keep you posted on what was wrong once Iget time to work on it again.
