    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Searched the forum and supplier websites but can't get a definitive answer. I have an extra oil filter from my '83 GS1100G that I was going to use on my '83 GS1100ES when changing it's oil. I'm pretty sure they both take the same filter (Suzuki part # 16510-45040) but sites I've checked don't specify.

Yeah, they use the same oil filter. Almost every GS uses that filter. There are a couple that don't, but it's pretty universal for Suzukis from that era.

A great resource for cross checking such things is the Dennis Kirk catalog. You can call them and order a catalog, and cross check all the maintenance parts like plugs, filters, tires, etc...

Here is an excerpt from my oil change guide on my little BikeCliff website:

[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]The oil filter itself is common to a lot of Suzuki bikes, from the GS425 on up to the GS1100. Again there are many opinions as to which filter to use and many opinions as to quality; Fram (CH6001), Purolator (ML16800), Napa/Wix (24931), HiFlo Filtro (HF133), K&N (KH133), STP (rebranded Fram), EMGO (10-29800), Suzuki (16510-45040), etc. Personally, I've been buying HIFLO filters from [/FONT][FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]Bike Bandit[/FONT][FONT=Verdana, sans-serif] 5 at a time ($3.45 ea). They include the O-rings. I have no affiliation with Bike Bandit other than I'm a satisfied customer. I feel the same way about filters as I do oil, change it often enough (I change my filter at every oil change) and just about any one will get the job done. If you tend to abuse your oil and go longer between changes, then you may wish to buy the more expensive, higher quality oils and filters. [/FONT]​

As Clif posted fram CH6001 also the CH6000 are the same filters with different O rings
 
Yup -- most GS models use the three-lobed o-ring, but some (the 1100E and 1150E, I think) use a four-lobed o-ring. The filter itself is the same.

both '83 G and ES list the same oil filter

but a different o-ring for each(as bwringer and sqdancer said).

You guys are pretty smart! I don't care what others say about you!!
 
Just FYI, The HiFlo filters I get from BikeBandit come with both types of O-rings.

I figured its better to bring this thread back instead of making a new one.

Basscliff - All of those sites list the filter and then the o-ring under different part numbers. Does BikeBandit just throw an o-ring in when you buy a filter anyways?
