A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Painted Carbs

renobruce should offer up his services to do this on a full time basis. I bet there are a lot of gs owners who would be willing to have this done by someone who gets such good looking results.
Beautiful work mr. renobruce.

I am for hire! :D

Carb rebuilding and painting, and aluminum polishing. :)

As slow as my regular business has been, I'm always looking to make extra money. Lately I've even been doing automotive mechanic work...brakes, tune-up, clutches, etc. :-&

I buy my SS screws locally from a place called Mr. Metric www.mrmetric.com, and also a supplier named Olander www.olander.com. But there are many others. McMaster Carr, as Bruce mentioned is a popular supplier.

I started using button head screws rather than cap screws. I think they look more like the original philips heads and still shows a little bling. See the red carbs for an example.

I liked what you did so much with the screws I did the same thing with black ones (I like flat black/black) I found them at Lowe's and got 16 of them for 6.72 (with Maine tax, yea I know they saw me coming) they really do look good and better in real life

Black is Beautiful.

I have heard that the iron oxide (black screws) rust pretty quickly. Keep an eye on that.

Reno,

What kind of prep did you do on the cross bar that holds the carbs together? They have some kind of coating or something to them.

Thanks,

Yes, they have some kind of gold anodizing? on them. The gold will polish off on a polishing wheel. What I did on Joe's was hit them with a soft wire wheel, sanded, etch primed, and painted.

Just curious, does your 's' key not work?

But anyways, nice job on the carbs. I have been wanting to do something like this on my bike as well. I may have to steal your methods such as the boiling. Just saw a set of carbs on eBay for my bike. Now I just need to convince the girlfriend. :)

If they're the same as all the carbs I've come across that's a zinc plating with a yellow passivate (yellow is better rust protection that the BZP (bright, silver blue colour) you mostly see.
In theory you should be able to paint straight over the top for ultimate protection. Etch primer would probably work well on it I would think.

Fingers crossed we've hit the bottom of the slow down & things will start to slowly head up... I read that there has been a huge amount of liquidation of inventory globally that at some stage needs to be restocked. Here's hoping.

Dan :)

RenoBruce-is that all rattle can? Freaking amazing! I just beadblasted a set of carbs I rebuilt for my bike and were going to just leave them alone. You have inspired me (US) to take they GS's to the next level

Also, what is the name of the black paint with the purposed wrinkles? Very different.

Yes, it's caliper paint from a rattle can. The tops of his carbs are plastic, so I just cleaned them up and used S100 Engine Bright on them.

The stock tops are textured, Bruce just used a little S100
