Painting shock springs

Ok, the plan is to get a new pair of rear shocks, but that's not in the budget yet.

I dissasembled my shocks to clean off tons of rust. Got it all off, but the springs are missing loads of chrome. The collars and dampers look ok.

Any suggestions on paint to use for the springs? I was thinking plasti-dip, but I'm concerned about tearing it when I compress the springs for re-assembly. I'd like to use some type of gloss black.

powder coating works ok on shock springs, flexible enough not to crack.

I think it's appliance epoxy. IDK, I have a number of cans around at any given time.

Appliance epoxy is some of the best stuff you can get put of a can. Almost my whole bike is painted with it.

Is that stuff 1 part or 2? Does it come in a rattle can?

over the top of a primer from memory. Worked ok but would chip so be prepared to repair. That set I actually painted on the shock. Put a loop of emery cloth around to clean off rust & then worked masking tape in from the outside. I painted the shock body same colour so that helped.

The set I have now that were powdercoated are flaking quite badly after a year or so.

1 part, rattlecan, lowes, Home Depot, hardware stores. Less than $5 a can, sticks to anything, lays on very very smooth and is very forgiving. Really hard, really durable.

Only comes in black, white, almond, and "stainless steel".

Rustoleum and krylon make it.

No post paint work, and minimal prep. Just a coat of wax after about a week.

I powder coated my springs. I like the durability.
