    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So I've recently purchased a GS450T and am in the process of carb rebuilds, valves, etc.

Took apart the fuel petcock to clean it out and rebuild it as well and had the spring in the back cover 'twang' out before I could see its position.

What I'm interested in is: Does the spring go between the diaphragm and the back cover? Or between the diaphragm and the main body?

Not 100% sure with your model but it's usually between the diaphragm and back cover (and I can't see whay yours should be any different). Pop it back together, suck on the vac tube, pop your finger over the tube to hold the vacuum and see if it works by blowing the wrong way through the fuel outlet.
 
Thanks! I had a suspicion that was how it went but just wanted to double check.
 
The spring pushes the diaphragm in to close the valve, the vacuum pulls it against the spring to open it and turn the fuel on. Hey did you ever sell that 750?
 
SPRING you say??? Hmmm maybe my lack of a spring is why mine is leaking. :-k
 
oh crap. that reminds me i have to put that fiddly little spring back in!
My petcock wasnt working all to great, Res did nothing, ON worked fine and Pri did nothing.
Took it apart and found that the bottom spring (the one thats shaped like a @ symbol, not the coil looking one) was all mangled.. Put everything back somewhat and now ON and Res work.. not pri tho :(

Anyone know how they are supposed to look? :)
(alternative is to get a new petcock for about 100$ :(
