    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Petcock Vacuum Question

I tore apart the petcock last night and everything was clean inside. While I had it apart, I sucked on the vacuum hose and found that there is some air entering. It still pulled the plug the way it should, but I heard a little hiss. I was actually getting air through the vacuum tube. I'm assuming this is not supposed to happen and that the seal should be air tight. Am I correct? If that is the case, I will probably just pick up a rebuild kit and get a new seal on there.

The diaphram rebuild kits are junk, like most aftermarket parts are. Do yourself a favor and go to www.bikebandit.com and buy an original oem petcock and forget for another 20 years.
 
I forgot to mention. You should be able to pull and maintain a vacuum in the vacuum hose indefinately. It definately needs replaced.
 
You have to be very careful with a petcock where the diaphragm is shot. When this happens fuel flows down the vacuum line into the body of the carb and down into the intake port washing the cylinder clean and allowing fuel to make it down into the crankcases.

Personally I do not like (or trust) vacuum petcocks - I tend to replace any that are suspect with a manual petcock.
 
I had the same problem. I bought a rebuild kit off ebay. It still leaked. Do yourself a favor and buy a new petcock.
 
That's the ticket. I've seen too many people get heartburn over just clicking on a link, picking up the phone or going to your local bike parts shop!
Slap it on and forget about it!
 
From a post here, appx. 3 wks ago, andrewclaycomb ordered a new pet cock from www.flatoutmotorcycles.com, and when he installed it, it was leaking as bad as the one he was replacing. I've rebuilt 2 within the past 2 years, & they haven't given any trouble at all. DECISIONS, DECISIONS
 
Just go to the dealer and pay the price. My dealer met the price of the on line supplier. Just ask. What's the worse they can say--"No"? And no leaks.
