Hi Folks, Removed Petrol Tap from tank and now want to put it back on. Can anyone suggest a good method of sealing the Thread, that will not dissolve and leave c**p in my tank?.

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

The automotive specialty stores usually carry gas/petrol resistant sealers/glues. We have a product called Seal All that I use. Its clear and hardens like a glue but will break off easily when you want to remove things again. Just a dab on the threads.
As Steve says, the OEM gasket is the best idea but if yours has gone flat and you can't readily come up with one, you can use a slice of bicycle inner tube to form a gasket. Cut it slightly oversize (maybe an 1/8") to the "footprint" of the petcock and cut out the center portion where the filter sticks through. Where the holes go through for the bolts just poke a wee hole and force the bolt through. The rubber will seal against the bolt thread.
That will work in a pinch but try and get a new o-ring.

Hi To all that have so far replied,....but....I forgot to mention, that its a custom tank, NOT..a standard tank or Petrol Tap
. I have been having problems with c**p in my Carbs and have stripped them down and cleaned Jets, replaced O-Rings, Gaskets, etc. Today, I picked my Chop up from the Garage (Had new tyre put on). Bike ran well on normal streets until I headed out onto winding country roads,...then it chugged to a halt (150 mtrs from home). Gave it a couple of minutes and it started up again. The inside of the tank, is not in pristine condition...and the tap has no filter. So, I guess, that i`m sucking up the c**p, when the petrol is swishing around. This bike is a recent purchase, so I`m overhauling it. I`m going to take the carbs apart (again) and give them another clean out...and put an Glass In-Line Filter on, so that I can see whats happening. When I removed the Tap, there was sediment crusted onto and around the fuel pipe part...but the pipes (On and Reserve), were clear enough to allow petrol flow through.
Can anyone recommend a good Flushing agent, for cleaning out the tank too. Ta.
