Pic of the week game

First picture of me on my first real streetbike - a $100 1982 (I think) Kawasaki LTD 550. I borrowed a truck and drove about 5 hours to get it. My cousin in Pa. was going to buy it, but when he passed, I grabbed it. This was about 1992.
The old blue NJ license plate that was on it lives on - it has served as a stiffener on my 1150 since it's plate started cracking.
In typical GS-L fashion, those handlebars were quickly changed.

There is a long story behind myself and the new to me first ride on this bike when I picked it up from Fresno. I don't have any pictures of that one but here is a bad photo of my first tour on her in 2002. It was 6 months after in early July, that was 8 days and 2008 miles long. Had to suffer hot springs 6 of those nights.

Could not think of any artistic/interesting pic of anything new.

Did think that I should have got a picture that showed my frustration of when I first got the BMW R1150RT. When I first got to the bike, I could not figure out where and how to use the key. I could not figure out how to open the side bags. So I was there befuddled and annoyed and disappointed in the entire situation. Should have got some picture with a disgusted look on my face. After I determined that was already a key in the ignition (it had some big knob-emblem on it), I still could not figure what all the flashing lights were all about (some brake test), and why it would not start (in gear with sidestand down). In trying to open the side bag, it came lose of its mounting, and I had hard time getting it back in place.

Did have pic of my first bike, in first or second week.
Slides in basement. (looks like are deteriorating some).

First bike. June 1979.
New bike.
Before had even gloves.
Before had a jacket.
Open face helmet with flip up bubble shield.
Had figured out that on a warm summer day, might have 50-60 degrees in morning, so at least need a flannel shirt.
Had yet to figure out that picture of bike should not have cars in it.
1968 Buick LeSabre, 1971 Ford F-150
Hardhat strapped on back because plant was still under construction and had to walk thru construction-staging area.

I recognized the truck and the car and the bike right away, but wondered about the guy with dark mustache.

My 750T, the when I first bought it. er, um, 11 years ago... Wow, forgot I have had her that long...

Thanks Roger, for the compilation.
Sitting at the docs with wife this morning.

I love the selection of old pictures of times gone by.
I love Rich's ATC 200x. I had the same machine. It looks so small now.
Agemax took a cool bike to another level.
Santa's bike is sim0ly bashful.

Voting for Trevor. It doesn't get much newer then out of the box. I have to imagine that it's a special thrill seeing your brand new bike uncrated.

Oh, I'm glad to see the variety of pictures of "New to me".
Yes, Trevor's uncrating is cool -- I can practically smell it!
And Bob's unloading, too.
Loving Dave's '79 Kaw pic.

My vote comes down to Garth, Glen, or Roger.
Garth, I love the sunglasses and the jacket and the bottle in your hand!
Roger, the two-up is terrific, especially with dad's socks!
Ultimately, I am going with Glen dorkburger for the satisfied smile and pose. I think it really captured the "new to me."

Thanks for compilation Roger.

Lots of interesting pictures. Sandys is particularly well composed, sharp, great picture of great bike.
Several interesting pictures of bikes, but really isnt anything apparent that is anything "new" about the bike, other than the owners memory of that the picture was taken back when first got the bike.

Trev's picture, I can imagine the excitement standing there seeing new bike uncrated, but that is not contained in the picture. Picture is obviously the newest possible bike, picture is dealer employee doing his routine job. I can imagine is a great picture to have, to document & remember the occasion.

Dorkbgr, bccap, Keerfunk, and mine are pics of guy on bike, and pic does have some evidence that bike was probably their first bike, by lack of basic riding gear, so new to them. Bob baatfam pic is obviously him taking delivery (I assume delivery) of bike.

For a tie-breaker in my mind, between bccap Garth and Dork Glen I am going to give a vote to Dorkburger for the big satisfied smile that shows the excitement of new ownership, bike is new to him.

.

I'm going with dorkburger this week.... It's the grin that tipped the balance.......

Rich gets my vote, purely for the fact that brings back lots of fond memories of when i owned one of those death trap ATC's. Never had so much scary fun on a bike as i did with that one, lol

Thanks, "scary fun" is a good phrase for that. My cojones must have been way bigger way back then. No way I'd ride something like that now, at least the way I rode it back then.

For me it's a toss up between bccap and Dorkburger. Both show the new proud owners but as others have noted, it's dorkburger's grin that seals the deal.

Saturday

Vote Tally

Trevor 2, Dorkburger 5, bccap 1, Rich 1.

Mr Glen Dorkburger, Congrats, and what fun theme-category do you have for us this coming week?
