A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi,

I?ve searched high and low but can?t find where I can buy a couple of OEM springs for my 81 GS650e.

People saying to use bic pen spring etc but I want them all the same, and I figure they must be available.

Schematic on the spares websites show a completely different set up, however I believe mine to be factory?

Thanks for the response, that top thumbnail is my set up. Mikuni BS32SS carbs. Also, the tip of the screw isn’t ultra pointy, slightly flat at the end. They’re all the same, is this normal? When I carefully wind them in without springs, spacer and o ring I can’t see the point extend into the carb body.

Here's a typical measurement from one off my bike. Aftermarket ones with spring/washer/oring are available . A pen spring should work ok, as it's just putting drag on screw

Thanks Tom!

I’ll try and chase a couple down. Pen spring should work indeed, but if I can find a couple I’d rather do that.

Like the 650?

I wouldn't think twice about substituting that spring, it's sole purpose is to put tension on the screw so it doesn't turn from engine vibration. It's not much different than using a lock washer.

Ok, thanks. Might look into it.

when I remove spring and o ring etc and gently wind them down until I get tension, I can’t these the tip of the pilot screw protruding on the inside, is this normal or should I see the point? (Are mine damaged?)

You might try a hardware store for a spring.
My local store has a good stock of them, fixed the kill switch on my DRz that way.

If one of the tips of the needle is flat, it has most probably broken off. They usually end up stuck on the pilot hole in the carb body.

Make sure the tips are not still in there and replace any broken needles.

Would you have a picture by any chance? I think they’re all slightly ‘squared off’ and not pointy

Thanks for the pic.

Mine are tapered, the same as yours Tom, so I guess they?re right.
