If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I bought this new (old stock) head for my GS550 restoration project but when I disassembled my engine I spotted the differences. The combustion chamber in my head is full piston size, this one has reversed domes only where the valves are and the valve diameter seems to be one millimeter smaller than mine. Other than that the heads looking exactly the same. Probably that's why the seller was advertised it as head for GS550. Is it there someone who can recognize it? I can't see part number on it.View attachment 41165

There was a 400cc four cylinder sold in some markets. I wonder if that's what this is?

I'm a bit surprised of all GS experienced members here nobody can recognize the head.

Could be from a rare GS500 (obviously the older Inline 4, not the newer twin). Try and dig up some service manuals and compare valve specs perhaps?

Approximately where are you on this big blue marble floating gently through space? And approximately where did the mystery cylinder head come from? If we know what countries are involved, that will help narrow down the possibilities.

What year GS550 are you working on, and what year, if known, did that used head (it's definitely not NOS -- looks like it may have been stored at the bottom of a pond, frankly, and I have grave doubts about the condition of the camshaft bearing surfaces) come from?

Do all the other measurements (bore spacing, bolt pattern, etc.) match?

This one is as mine (GS550). If you compare the combustion chambers you will see the difference. Actually on the unknown one the chamber literally missing, just nest for valves.

Not sure what that head is for but I agree with bwringer that that head is not NOS or was stored outside for years. Your original head would probably be easier to rebuild then that one.

If it was a NOS head, as in corrosion free and clean, which it ain't, it would certainly boost the compression ratio;)
