Here is my Suzuki GS1000E 1980 model

Beautiful bike, also just noticed that hefty NOS tank on the left hand side.:-\\\

GS79 - nice bike.

Anyone know why there's an extra breather from the clutch cover? Isn't the stock breather enough?

Thant is very popular on the 8V brit bikes. I did not find it unnecessary on mine. I plumbed one in with a pressure gauge and did not see any back pressure,.

There is a bit of a story behind the PJ1 sticker! I got a whopping tank slapper over a rippled road surface at 80mph, bars went into a lock to lock and the tank got a slight dent, luckily thats all. The bike has covered 39,000 and funnily has been exposed the UK winters but shes my pride and joy.

Yeah you see that extra clutch cover breather a lot on UK GS1000s but I never understood the need. Curious if oil ever winds up that steel braided breather hose, thus proving the fact that there is pressure which needs to be vented from that portion of the motor.

gs79,

Stunning colour! I reserve final judgement till after my test ride.:D August ok with you?

If that was a tank slapper you obviously had on some cafe or clip ons before? Bro, that must have been a scary few seconds.
I had a crash with my 1100 this summer and the tank took a smallish dent.Hate to say it but it was a custom color paint and I did not want to repaint the whole bike so I am going to use some sticker camoflague on my dent too , at least for now. ha ha Gotta do what ya gotta do.
Eye catching bike. Good work.

No problem, it is just having a Falicon heavy duty clutch fitted and then it is mega polishing time!

Yep, you are right loud et, at one stage the bike was fitted with clip ons and a Bol D Or twin headlight racing fairing, its amazing how many transformations the bike has had in 30 years

nice bike gs79! i like dual headlight fairing. oh and theres no covering up the dents on my tank with stickers lol they are way to big.

you will never see a pressure build up enough to show on a gauge through this vent, or oil winding its way up the hose.
big bore motors will inevitably produce more crankcase pressure due to the larger mass of pistons reciprocating in the engine.
the top vent will cope with most engines unless you go up to massive CC turbo/nitrous/nutter engines.
it merely is there to help vent fumes building up in the lower crankcase area and reduce any oil blown through the top vent.
any oil that does build up in the vent pipe is oil mist caused by hot running, high revving engines.
(even race built monkey bikes have them fitted! :-\\\)

Here are some pics of my 1980 gs550e , ive been working on it the passed few months, its coming along nicely. She's back on the road and running pretty good, still tweaking it and adding stuff to it as i go. :D

Is that all paint, or powdercoat?

The tank, fender , tail piece and side panels are all paint, the engine side covers and some other parts are powder coated flat black. I've been slowly bringing more parts as i work on the bike to the powder coater.... :D

hello guys, i just finished my build.
this is a 85 GS700 with a 96 GSXR 750 front end and a 98 Katana600 rear

Im usually not one for the unpainted tank, and single saddle like that but Jesus... That really is a thing of beauty. Both from a mechanical/bike standpoint, and from a photography standpoint. That is the most beautiful bike I have seen in a while. Bravo Brent, truly great work.
