A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • This forum is for placing reviews for parts, accessories, gear and service as it relates to your GS motorcycle. The key here is "GS Related". There is a bit of latitude here but we don't want to see a review on Maytag washers just because that's what you use to clean your riding jacket in.

Keep your review as factual as possible and please refrain from personal attacks. Posted articles will be reviewed by the Editors and may be removed at their discretion.

So let's make this a useful addition to the forum! A special pat on the back goes to Hap Call for coming up with this great idea.

Prestone Fuel Hose

Just a warning of sorts. When I started my restoration one of the very first things I had to do was change the fuel hose and vacuum hose. I went to my local Auto place and bought Prestone. There wasn't a huge selection and who doesn't know the name Preston so I figured it was safe. Our fuel system is gravity fed and not under pressure.

I was replacing my fuel valve this weekend and noticed the condition of my hose

There are no leaks and it appears that the cracks are only through the outer portion but they are a couple of mm's deep and are throughout the hose still it doesnt look all that safe to me and I will be changing it. This was installed less than 6 months ago and the bike has less than 1000 miles since install.

I wrote to Prestone not looking for a refund but just so they were aware and was told ..

"
Good Afternoon Alexander,

We regret to hear about your experience, however those products are actually made by a company called CADNA that licenses the Prestone brand name. Their contact information can be found here: http://www.cadna.com/About.asp. Please let me know if you require anything further.

Sincerely,

Aaron Jones
Prestone Consumer Relations Representative

I was kind of dismayed because even if they license the name it is their name on the package. I am no expert on hose but I don't think that should happen and think it could be a potential safety issue. I wrote to the company they said manufactured the hose and have not heard back.

I would pass on Prestone brand hoses if you are replacing.

Unfortunate about the hose. More unfortunate about the fact that many companies that once had great products and a great name now license their name to companies that just sell generic, cheap crap.
Just order some from your usual Suzuki source and you'll get enough for a few bikes, the quality will good and it'll be the actual proper diameter.

That is good advice sandy. I was excited to see if the bike would start and what I would need to get it going when I first brought it home and I could get the fuel hose at the local auto store that day. I have tried one or two of the Suzuki online places but it takes them a week or more to ship and then another week to get here and I was impatient.

I am going to change out my carb intake boots so I will order new hose with it.

Shame is .. I have bought a lot of Prestone products over 35 years and always felt comfortable. I mean its one of the big names since forever. Unfortunately while I could have accepted a faulty part, every company has lemons that sneak through, the pass the buck attitude from them was surprising to me.

Can't fault the Prestone name, but let's face it, ... it's the wrong product. :k

Virtually all of the Suzuki online places need to gather up a minumum number of orders (or a minimum dollar amount), then place the order with the Suzuki warehouse. The warehouse ships to the dealer, who then re-packs it and ships to you. Overall, two weeks is average, and I feel that is pretty darn good.

If you don't want to wait those two weeks, PM me your address and the length of your hose, I'll cut a piece and send it to you.

.

My local dealership usually has it ready for me within 5 business days. No matter what I order. I just try to avoid waiting until Friday to order but even then I can pick it up by the next Friday.

Thanks Steve but at this point I have the time and patience. I was just excited when I first started but now that she is running I am happy. Time to do intake boots, clamps and new fuel line and maybe new rubber for my pegs.

I did a search and found a Suzuki + parts place 6 minutes from home.I figure I will pay tax but not shipping and maybe get parts a week sooner. I will find out soon since i plan a trip this week.

Make sure to compare their prices against Parts Outlaw or Partzilla before you buy. There is a local place 2 minutes from me. I refuse to buy from them since their prices are outrageously high.
