A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

Thanks posplayr - I'm a step ahead of you, though :-). I built a completely new harness and it's almost done - I just have to add a couple wires, test fit it in my frame, and then install the connectors.

Maybe a day, you posted this yesterday.

Before I embarked on assembling the new harness, I drew a new schematic - keep in mind that this schematic isn't completely finished, as I have not delineated the specific ground paths and the locations of connectors, etc..

I stumbled on this thread earlier tonight, and went back to the first post and spent the rest of the night reading the entire thread.
Incredible!

I should have explained myself better - I have the grounds laid out in the harness the way I want them, I just didn't update my schematic. I.E, I ran separate grounds for my headlight and horns, yet the turn signal grounds are spliced into one wire, same with the brake/tail/lic/cluster etc.

Anthony????????????????????????????????????????????????
Ray.

Hey bud - the engine is going to be started before springtime. The electrics should be finished within the next week. Then it's onto the cables...

Things got a bit goofy over the past couple weeks - my brakelines/fittings order turned into a debacle, but that's resolved now. Also, my ratcheting crimper with dies for "b" crimps worked for $h*t on the stamped terminals for ATM/DTM connectors, so, I had to buy a new crimper which delayed me a week. I will attempt to finish and test the harness this weekend. Here are some progress photos:

Did you polish the coil standoffs?!
{add}...like the S/S lines...who's are those? {I need those next...then to rebuild the calipers...then the MCs}

such a beautifull work.
I saw that you painted the engine cases. Which paint? Did you add a vernish?

Two coats VHT engine primer (gray) and three coats VHT engine paint (silver/aluminum). Baked all of the parts in my oven at 200f for 1hr.

I'm curious about your ignition coils. They don't look like the Dyna green 3ohm coils. What ignition system are you using?

Oh, I love your wiring, very clean.

Dyna 2000 digital system - coils are 2.2 ohms. The system has a built-in low RPM timing retard.

This thread has ruined every other build thread I will ever see. You've set the bar so high I cannot possibly be impressed again. Damn you!
