A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Good Day!
First off, I would like to thank everyone on this wonderful forum. You have created such an abundance of information, every question I have has already been answered in the few days of "lurking" here!
Anyways, as the title descfibes, I am the very proud owner of a 1983 GS 1100ESD. I did purchase this bike in a non running state. The r/r has burned out and created a small, but repairable electrical issue. A few melted wires/connectors that will be replaced or removed all together. Everything else seems to test out within spec(lucky me!).
Everything seems to be stock besides a 4-1 manifold and modified muffler and a painted windscreen. The body seems to be in good shape minus a couple of paint chips an a couple broken tabs. The engine is producing a solid 155psi accross the board for compression and the only oil leak(weep) is coming from the cam chain tensioner.
Overall, I am very happy with the purchase and can not wait to be one with the bike! We are already getting to know eachother very well in the garage... Anywho, let's see if I can't upload some bike porn for you fellas!

Dang it, you scored the super-rare, anti-gravity model of my favourite '83, right out from under my nose.

Welcome to the GSR. Have you been here before?

There we go. Looks familiar. Congrats. I've put the Compufire R/R and Electrosport stator on mine. Good combination. Enjoy!

Congrats on the purchase. A bunch of us were looking at the ad for that bike in Red Deer, super jealous. Welcome to the site.

This is the "Fastest" edition of the 1100 ever made! Welcome!
I need to get up to Red Deer some day and do a little research.

Thanks for the comments guys! Have been looking for a bike like this for some time now... I was super lucky as the fellow had brought it to us for the electrical repairs and didn't like the diagnosis. Threw him an offer and it was mine an hour later!! Unfortunately, she won't be riden this year as it is half tore apart in the garage getting every nook and cranny looked at. Front end is apart atm, refinishing wheel and trying to locate some fork bushings. Fork seals have to be done and I would like some bushings "just in case". Next will be the wiring from front to back. Will be fun!

Wow!

Other than the pipe, that's a nice bike!

Welcome and do post pics of your build.

the best of the gs's, in my biased opinion. And I agree the pipe is ugly, but looks nice otherwise, enjoy!
