A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

On my way home today, my bike shut down on me and would not start back up. The only thing that happens when I push the start button is the starter solenoid clicks.
Am I right in assuming that the bike is not charging properly?
If I put it on a charger and get it started, should it stay running if I disconnect the battery?
My bike is an 81' gs750L

It sounds like you have a charging problem, or a dead battery

Go to the Stator Papers to troubleshoot

Whatever you do, DO NOT disconnect the battery while the bike is running. That will fry all sorts of things

Well, I put my bike on a charge (Jump start @ 65 amp) and let it set for a little while.
Got it to start and let it idle for about 5 min or maybe a little longer.........
and then it just shut off and wouldn't start back up.
I happened to notice that my battery tender was set at 6 volt instead of 12 volt, maybe it didn't have a good charge?
But I think the bike is still not charging to full capacity. Once it is running, shouldn't it keep itself charged? And will the heat ( It is pushing 100 degrees) affect it any?

Heat shouldn't be a problem.

Charge the battery fully & get it running then go through the STATOR PAPERS.

You'll need a digital meter.

?

Don't do that again, the 65 amp setting can destroy your regulator/rectifier. If the voltage when the bike is reved to 5000 rpm or so is at or above 16 volts and/or your battery bubbles heavily when the bike is running, that would mean you broke the R/R.

Use the 2 amp setting, or MAYBE the 10 amp
