Question about Oil Pan Gasket for 1978 GS550

Hey Guys,

Just drained the oil from my bike after a 500 mile trip of hard riding and noticed the oil was very dirty, no sediment or floating material but just very very dark, nearly jet black. This oil was in the bike for less than 1000 miles along with a brand new k & N oem style filter and oring.

At this point I am assuming the screen above the pan could potentially be blocked up or dirty and I want to eliminate the potential for any oil pressure/lubrication related issues so I intend on cleaning the screen thoroughly and replacing the screen bolts with loc tite (recommended in Haynes manual).

Anyways at this time I will need to replace the oil pan gasket (pan looks very accessible after removing exhaust?) after I take it off to get to the screen.

I counted the bolts on my pan (13) and seems to match up generally with the shape of these gaskets , was hoping someone with more experience might be able to confirm this is the right part since I have been mislead online before with stuff like this.

One more question I have is when replacing the gasket do you just gently line it up with mating surface and then screw the pan back into or do you need to do anything to secure the gasket material?

many of the online retailers have parts fische, i use the one from babbitts, parts outlaw or alphasports are also popular. Get the part number, and know. Gasket can go on dry.

no, their prices are ok and i can pick up locally, which saves me shipping. their shipping prices are outrageous and their customer service sucks. but they are close.

What type of loctite is best for an internal part such as the screen , which will be coming into contact/sitting in hot and cold motor oil?

I know there are a few different color loc tites manufactured for different purposes but not sure what the best application would be in this case.

Also do I need to let the loctite cure multiple hours or overnight before I put the oil pan back on and fill the bike with oil or i can I do the oil change immediately?
