    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok, this is kinda wierd. '81 GS450L, stock as far as I know. I wasn't the first owner, so maybe not.

I'm in the process of rebuilding my carbs, and am waiting for Mr. Barr's vendors to inundate him with O-rings for his upcoming kit for the 450's.

Funny thing is, I'm wondering now if I have the stock carbs. I stopped at a dealer that I saw in passing when I was driving for work, and asked to get the main jet O-ring and the pilot air screw O-ring, just because I'm impatient, and I'm never usually in an area with a bike shop.

The Suzuki Genuine Part numbers he gave me were 13295-29900 for the larger one (says needle seat on the invoice), and 13374-46710 for the pilot air screw.

I get home, and get ready to put them on, and the main one is definitely too big, and the pilot air screw is too small (not 100% sure on this one, but I think so.)

I then just Googled Mikuni BS34 a bunch (this is the correct carb for the GS450L, correct?) and saw that it was on a bunch of Kawasakis also. And the kit there, had the same float bowl gasket as the one I bought before from Z1. Neither of them match the actual float bowl gasket I have (see photo)....

On my throttle butterfly, there's a little square, with another square in the lower left corner, with the number '135' stamped next to it. On the body itself, I found some lettering (not stamped, maybe printed?) that looks like '44110' followed by E082.

Basically, the two separate vendors giving me the wrong parts for the same bike is making me wonder if I don't have some sort of different carbs on here.

In reading more, it seems that this bike is supposed to have BS34SS carbs. The pictures I've been able to find all show the pilot air screw in the leftmost hole of the airbox side. as you can see in the picture above, there is none there. The pilot air screw on this carb is actually on the engine side, and sideways, basically right below the shaft for the choke.

I don't know if this helps, but those are the exact same carbs I've got in my -81 GS450e.
44100 is the series nr. of this Mikuni BS34 carb as per the Haynes manual (same nr on mine).

I had the same problem getting parts for mine, until I ran across a local dealer, who upon seeing the jets I wanted, said: "Ahh, Keihin"
I said: "No, Mikuni"
"Mikuni never made those" he said.
Turns out that this might be some kind of license production / branding.
Anyway the internals of the carbs are Keihin.

Sorry I don't have any parts numbers at hand.

I just rebuilt some 86 450L carbs and they did not look like that.
 
The carbs I'm basing my kit on are absolutely identical to what you're picturing here.

The replacement bowl gaskets cover just the perimeter, and don't have that section in the middle with some type of passages sealed off. Apparently that's not a major concern.
 
SqDancerLynn1, thanks for the AlphaSports link, their exploded diagrams are a little sharper than others I've seen.

Matchless, thanks for that link! I ran across that thread, but hadn't waded into it very far, and kinda forgot about it. d'oh! Inerestingly enough, it says that only the ED model gets the 120 main jet, while all the others are 115. Mine, an LX by the frame stamping, actually has a 120 in it.

Robert, that eases my mind greatly knowing that I didn't necessarily get some completely random wrong gasket. Does make me wonder what that middle section actually does, though.

Doesn't it? I was looking through various websites at the bowl gaskets, and it seems to be one gasket fits just about everything Suzuki ever made. (exaggeration, of course).

I'm going to keep my original bowl gaskets -- even though I don't have a 450 to go with the carbs!
