• This forum allows conversation on non-controversial topics, therefore no politics or religion. "The Campfire" is an area meant for casual, civil discussions. Deliberate anti-social activity including personal insults, profanity, pornography, racism, threats and purposely inflammatory posts may result in suspension of forum access or possibly a permanent ban from GSR.

The words insight and incite are pronounced the same. But one of them will get you banned and the other will not. Before hitting the Submit button be certain which of the two better describes your post.

    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Did a quick bit of exploring after work after noticing this area from the warehouse roof I was on.

hey
what good example of how framing/posing a scene can give such different results. One image gives such a different impression of the area than does the other.

Welllll. They are actually two different locations. The big pond is a retention basin for the warehouses in the background. The close up was a natural area adjacent to the pond with a very small brook running thru it.

We're off on a little trip to the east coast for the month of September. This was taken at Peggy's Cove the day before Dorian paid us a visit. All is well but it has been an interesting trip so far. Can't post from flickr on my tablet so the attachment is best I can do for now.

Redman. The lens is a 70-200mm mounted on a Canon 40D body so I do have a lot of zoom. He is also skiing at 28 feet off of the full length ski rope of 75 feet which helps as well. Will update my camera body at some point to one with more megapixels and a full-frame sensor. My iphone has more megapixels than my old Canon.

Wow, Scott, as mu h as I stare into that pic, I can’t entirely imagine you staring at you great-grandfather there in that pic.

perhaps it might be interesting to know that for such a picture at the time he was probably told he had to sit perfectly still for a minute or two, hence the chair and table to lean on, might have even had a bracket or clamp on back of head.

His story is interesting, after he passed around 1901 his wife filed for her Confederate Widow's benefits. Found out that he was considered AWOL. Turned out that when word of Lee's surrender reached his unit meaning the War was over he simply went home. She had to get letters from Men he served with verifying that he did not desert, simply left when the war ended without being properly mustered out. I found these documents online and have copies. She did finally get her Widow's pension.

A grizzly trying to look cute for a snack as we pass through looking to wet our fishing lines.
