A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Steve, my wife and I spent the weekend in Tillamook, going to the places we have been driving past for years.

The Gorge waterfalls are much closer to home.

Oregon beaches are owned by the state, so there's lots of access. BITD, it was the local road in many areas. Here, they carved a wagon road into the rock so you could pass at high tide. It became Hug Point. because the higher the tide, the more you hugged the wall

Out for a short ride today and found some more graffiti on another abandoned mine site. This time beside pavement.

Glen, I was thinking of all your recent close ups when I took the shot of the barnacles

Ramblings from last nights rambling.

Some free time was available last night so I happily took advantage, heading out into a very warm and wonderfully humid night hoping to find some peace and photo ops. I failed all evening to look thru my pics to jog my memory of spots I wanted to visit so I just decided to just head east toward the beach.
I left town and headed toward Red Bank, an old affluent town on the Navesink River.
In the dark between small towns, my mind wandered and thought about what I would find and photograph. I soon realized that moto photography and general art photography are a different mindset with moto being an act of inserting the bike into a scene vs. observing things as found. It would play on my mind throughout the ride. I arrived in town and slowly rolled thru Red Bank. Main Street had string lights strung across the streets, hung from the often ornate two or three story mid 1900s casting a warm inviting glow. Makeshift sidewalk dining dotted the street and few patrons were out on the quiet mid week night.
I rode down the hill to the marina and parked to peep the scene. Buildings near and far lit up the scene and reflections shimmered on the water, but nothing was deemed good enough to photograph, only enjoy in person.
Shortly later I headed out and thru Fair Haven then Rumson. A quick stop at Mount Mitchill park found it locked up. This park overlooks Sandy Hook bay and the distant light of NYC runs across the scene like an illuminated stripe splitting ground and sky. I left, got on Rt 36 and headed toward Sea Bright and I made the realization that night photography location scouting is tough at night in areas that one is not intimately familiar with. At that point I put photography on the back burner of the mind and just rode savoring the salt air - I was at the shore now. If a potential image grabbed my attention, I’d stop then. After passing thru several sleepy beach towns I happened to look over my left shoulder and saw the moon just over the horizon. It was orange and beautiful. I scrambled to find the nearest beach access. I stripped off my moto gear as fast as I could and walked into the sand and down to the waters edge to grab some shots.

The moon wasn’t particularly bright so I knew I would need the biggest aperture possible which meant the 14mm prime or the 50mm adapted that open to f/2.5. I went with the latter so I could pull the moon in better. The results were ok, but not great. I was rushed, ill prepared, had to do handheld, and the manual focus of the adapted lens was difficult in the low light. Excuses and learning points in one;)

This one makes me cringe a bit. Not so much the lighting, but the fact that every Jersey shore photo book, gift shop, etc has a version of this image.

I like this one the best - despite its technical difficulties. Actually I love it. So far. Its only a day old though.

No.flash. the light is from the streetlight behind me. I had to change my composition a bit so I didn't cast a shadow on it. I couldn't use the original image I saw in my mind.
