• This forum allows conversation on non-controversial topics, therefore no politics or religion. "The Campfire" is an area meant for casual, civil discussions. Deliberate anti-social activity including personal insults, profanity, pornography, racism, threats and purposely inflammatory posts may result in suspension of forum access or possibly a permanent ban from GSR.

    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Very well done Glen. Wonderfully exposed night sky. The composition you chose with the foreground and silhouette gives it a great sense of place and depth.

Thanks Sandy. All credit for the exposure goes to the camera - it was in full auto mode. I only placed it in a good spot....
The placement of my son worked well in this one. I took another with more of a side view of the bicycle and it was a very static shot not having the diagonal line of the bike coming in.

I have kind of a nature project happening. Found this guy on the carrot leaves and identified it as a future Black Swallowtail butterfly. After a little google research we saved it from any harm and imprisoned it in a jar stuffed with carrot leaves.

About a week later it attached itself for it's transformation into a chrysalis. You can see the silk threads.

It should remain in this state for about two weeks before emerging as a butterfly.

Kind of hard to fly off as a butterfly from a mason jar so after about 10 - 11 days it got moved outside to hopefully a safe place.

Set up the GoPro on time lapse of 60 seconds and hopefully will see the results. Had to butcher the case to allow for USB power but with the 64GB card and wifi tethering it will run without interference. I do check daily and delete the files if nothing happened.

Thats cool. We did the same a few years ago. We came home one evening and the butterfly was in the process of stretching its wings.

Nice. I need to check in there more often. I'll stop by, post an ocassional pic, look aound then, then not check in for a week plus at times.

Charmayne rode my horse Lou in the barrel racing event at the local Fox Hollow Rodeo this evening. Sadly Lou had some problems near the bucking chutes and threw Charmayne but she climbed back on and finished the pattern for no score.

This is a picture of her during warm up but the actual competition pictures didn't turn out because it was after dark and I don't think I set the auto-focus settings right for moving shots.
