• This forum allows conversation on non-controversial topics, therefore no politics or religion. "The Campfire" is an area meant for casual, civil discussions. Deliberate anti-social activity including personal insults, profanity, pornography, racism, threats and purposely inflammatory posts may result in suspension of forum access or possibly a permanent ban from GSR.

The words insight and incite are pronounced the same. But one of them will get you banned and the other will not. Before hitting the Submit button be certain which of the two better describes your post.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

After the rain came thru. Capturing lightning over the water the beach was the plan but.... the lightning stopped and the rain didn't. Drove around and ended up here again. A bit of homework as well. When they do the 9/11 memorial lights next week, I want to try to get some pics. Found a backup location as well.

Out here on the Left Coast, we're burning up. On top of that, an unusual weather pattern shifted the winds to E/NE and blew the smoke from the major wild fires in WA down thru the Gorge into the Willamette Valley. 40 miles south of here, it's dark all day.
Yesterday, it got dark around 5. Today started sunny, then deteriorated. Fires are breaking out all over, due to the winds of 20-60 mph. There's one about 10 miles west of me, burning fast. That was visible until about 3, when this blew in

Eerie and scary. Hope you and family are ok.

Glen, most of these fires are 5-200 miles away, just their smoke is blowing in on extra strong winds. Most of the smoke is aloft. The wind situation should change to a normal SW to NE flow tomorrow, so all that smoke will be headed to North Dakota, or Canada

So, no danger here

My wife's mother passed away last week and we flew down to La Marque TX this weekend to spend time with her sister and have a small memorial service at home. While there we all went out to Galveston Island on Sunday then I went back on Monday morning before dawn. Figured I'd share a couple of pictures

We got all kind of critters ‘round here. The Yellow Garden Spiders are usually outside. With the night getting cooler this one set up shop INSIDE the garage.

We managed a few hour drive with the RV to Kokanee Glacier Park for a few days. Going stir crazy hanging around home and with my now only semi buggered knee (feeling much better now) managed a short hike down into this river bed in an old growth forest for a few shots.

One of my many hobbies is photographing lighthouses. We don't normally go way out of our way to see them but if we are close we go. We have gotten over 90 so far but seeing there are like 780 just in the USA we are going to have to retire and do some traveling. Recently got the Fire Island lighthouse on the south shore of Long Island.

Nice. We have a few in Jersey. The Twin Lights are decommissioned, and the grounds now serve a a museum. The public is allowed into one of the towers. If I recall correctly, the original and massive light is on display in the museum. There's another lighthouse across the highway on Sandy Hook.
