• This forum allows conversation on non-controversial topics, therefore no politics or religion. "The Campfire" is an area meant for casual, civil discussions. Deliberate anti-social activity including personal insults, profanity, pornography, racism, threats and purposely inflammatory posts may result in suspension of forum access or possibly a permanent ban from GSR.

The words insight and incite are pronounced the same. But one of them will get you banned and the other will not. Before hitting the Submit button be certain which of the two better describes your post.

    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

On a walk down to a magnolia tree. Saw this for sale at a house. The faded lettering got my attention.

Guy came out of house to talk about it.
1954. Virginia twsp somewhere in Iowa I think he said.

Very cool. Hand painted truck lettering is a dying art.

My father's first utility truck when he started his business was an ex fire truck of the same era - a1953 Ford Big Job. He bought it from the local FD, stripped off the fire equipment, donated it back to the FD, and put a utility body on it. It saw regular use well into the late 1980s.
Somewhere I have an old beat up informational flyer from the FD about the then new firehouse. The truck is in the picture.

6 bed 8 bath 3000 plus sq foot Mansion for sale locally if you have 3.5 million laying around. Been for sale a couple of
months now.

Indeed it would, it is in Forclosure but not many around these parts are equipped to take that kind of Mortgage on.

Nice. Did you purposely wait for the boat?
Yah. Had a couple shots where the black iron and the shadow on the red beacon tower filled the frame. Then looked around for what else might be able to include. Saw seagulls flying around. Saw a boat coming. THought I could reframe some to include boat when it got there. Waited less than a minute for boat to get in frame.
(Didnt think to mess with focus (or other) to have better focus on the boat.)
Walked out to end of pier, and back, then left (coffee shop downtown was calling).
As was driving away, saw a coast guard boat going out.... ew, that would have been better, more specific to the location.

THat is yellow.

Mustard ? ?

Maybe I recall a pic of similar in field behind your house. That stuff common around there?

Canola, Mustard is also Yellow but grows wild. Canola is planted for Canola cooking oil. A Genius in Canada several years ago came up with the idea to change the name from Rape Weed to Canola and suddenly it is popular.

Finally had a bit of a play with the adapted 70-300 zoom lens. Hardly the right tool for our small backyard, but it turned out well. My other pic in the "dogs" thread is with the same lens. http://Max by Glen Brenner, on Flickr

Evening ride, took camera and tripod (do have one that fits in tail trunk).
Yep, stopped at beach about sunset.
Too many cars there to get place to include bike in shots.
Did have good sunset.

and more of a ride after sunset.
Looking for low light setting, and chose this well light old train depot (now tourist-icecream shops).
Was a traffic lane blocked off, so provided me a place to stand, and the barricades provided something to help steady the camera.

Cranked up ISO so could have shutter speed in fraction of second.
WOuld get better streaks of passing car lights with longer exposure (say 2 seconds), that would require tripod. Maybe next time .

Highwaymen by Scott Marvin, on Flickr

Digging through my old Photobucket account and found my Iconic "Highwaymen shot" from my first Brown County Rally in 2007. Taken at the Medora covered bridge. L to R, Jim, Jeff, Adam, Rodney, and I never got the Kid on the end's real name. Went by Llamaguy on the GSR.
