A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Random Photo thread

Seeing how forest fires are in the news a lot these days here's one taken yesterday on a short trip to see our grand daughters and is 3 years after a huge fire in Kootenay National park.

A few years ago our daughter mentioned "pier jumping", and we had to ask what she meant, and that kinda startled her. And lead into discussion of how it was something most kids would do, and would snicker about how thier parents would not approve or specifically prohibit just because it might appear to be hazardous but really is no danger at all, or so they thought at the time.

Note: As can see in photo by the wett area, is a group that had been doing this repeatidly. RUnning and jumping from the higher portion of the pier. One kid was doing summersaults and tucks and such like maybe knew classic springboard dives. Also keep in mind that are large ballast stones along edge of pier maybe 2 foot under surface of water (lake side). I saw one kid run and slip, momentum carried him on off the upper level and he barley cleared the lower edge.

Pier jumping, how fun that must be. What's the water temperature there? Must be pretty warm if they've been at it for a while.

Really great photos in here guys. Planes, bugs, flowers, birds, light houses, desert scenes, I sure enjoy looking through this thread.

I was home a little later in the morning yesterday and heard the coopers hawks making a racket. They team up and hunt the neighborhood every morning after sunrise. Over the last couple of weeks they've had a go at two of the neighbor's cats. Haven't carried any off yet, but they're doing their best. Honestly, I think they'll have to have that meal dine in, not to go. One of the cats had a gash on it's head. It'll have to be a darn good attack to avoid the fight.

Yes, lots of entertaining shots and interesting storys here lately.

And Glen DB coming up with shots that are amazing. I notice something, then have to say, no, thats not what it is, what is it, oh, its blah blah, no its not, oh, okay, now I see, its ... ah, no its not.

Water temps at LkMich Beach here have been mid 60s, which is close to about as warm as can expect in mid summer, maybe 70, occasionally might get a couple degress over 70 is the warmest that can expect if have a few calm days with slight wind from west (the predominate direction). But then if get high winds or winds from east, then the lake "turns over" and back to 50s ..

Thanks Dave. It gives me a smile when I can compose an interesting image with an absolute minimum of visual info.
As I was setting this up a guy walked out of the shadows. I should have taken the shot. In reality the background was dimly lit, but I adjusted the setup so it showed as black.

Does look quite simple at first.
I wonder what you saw first.
What I saw first is that is mostly dark, but then the illuminated window ac unit.
WHen look for a while, then see, the other stuff on wall next to the window, conduit and such, the light area on the ground, more of the building siding, then what must be the light up high there, oh, that is the light source for it all, then the pattern of light on the wall, and then the shadow of the ac unit on the ground.
Is actually a lot there, when it first appeared to be darkness.

Saw sun appear from behind overcast-haze. Diverted to a boat ramp park on river. Sun was fading, took some quick shots.

Later noticed an annoying distraction.

Another from Sunday morning.

Nice of those boats to be parked, er, um , moored (?) inline, nicely spaced, in size order, pointed in same direction.
And great that you noticed, and got in good position, and framed it well with the reflections.

I too wake up at 5am some mornings (but, roll over, pull up the sheets, and then get up again 2 - 3 hours later).
