Deliberate anti-social activity including personal insults, profanity, pornography, racism, threats and purposely inflammatory posts may result in suspension of forum access or possibly a permanent ban from GSR.

    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Random Photo thread

Thanks. I've been somewhat neglectful of my photography these last few weeks. These shots were quick stops on my way home from work. Like a good ride on the GS, I feel happy after camera work.
Seems that I'm on another black and white kick...

Okay, its been two weeks since I posted a pier picture.

P1230043 by Dave Redman, on Flickr

New Years Eve day morning before sunrise.
Took short tele zoom (14-42mm) and tripod out there. This with the zoom cranked to its full out (94 equivilant, so a mild tele).
THis shot at 0801AM, so about 15 minutes before sunrise, so still dark with a little bit of dawn light.

Opps, I should level it some.
I have found that even with short tele, the level indicator on the screen can show level (yellow tilt line turns green) but can still be off a degree. And a degree Is noticable with something like a tower that know should be vertical, or something like, say, a lake horizon all across the frame of picture.

I have one film camera but it's a cool one, my mom's old Rolleiflex 3.5E Xenotar, a '56 model. My older brother has all the negatives, boxes and boxes from ~1957 to the 70's.

Photography was a big thing for my parents. I never had the bug or patience to learn. So it sits.

My grandfather was studying at Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in the late 20's and early 30's in Munich (interesting times!), and my father digitized his movies from all over Europe, Bermuda, Florida and New England. Boat parties on the Charles river with flapper girls, hiding drinks looking out for cops is a highlight. A lot of it is in color starting in about 1935. Weird to see my dad at 1 year old in color as he's now 86.

Well, the title does say 'random' so I thought I'd share some randomness. If anyone wants a direct link to old color video footage, I'll send - PM me. It's even narrated!

Mom took this one, I'm sure with the Rollei, in about May 1969. It's got some schmutz on it from something but it's a great memory. I'm the 3rd stooge in the far back, aged 8.

I've got drawers full of film cameras and fridge full of film... let's go.
