Deliberate anti-social activity including personal insults, profanity, pornography, racism, threats and purposely inflammatory posts may result in suspension of forum access or possibly a permanent ban from GSR.

    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

P

hoto (cell phone) from ride today. I like the pic more for a picture than any part of the story of the ride.

Although: the story of this part of the ride is that this is in the beach parking area of the statepark, which is closed to traffic.
But as Bob Baatfam might say "if they want to keep bikes out, the barriers need to be closer together."
Or more specifically to this place "if they want to keep bikes out they need barriers on the walkways."

I should go back in the morning hours someday, so sun would be from behind me.

The latest snow was kind of different. The snow itself was like tiny rods. Then I noticed the way the frost was forming on everything.

I was in one of the areas near Buffalo that you may have heard about on the news where they had about 5' of snow a couple weeks ago. This is one of the places they were piling it up.

Very cool Eli. I haven't seen that on trees but we get that on bare ground after a big freeze. It's called needle ice. Not sure if that's what's in your picture but it forms when a porous damp object such as wood or the ground freezes and it actually pushes the moisture up through small pores and forms little needles. I've never noticed it on trees before and I don't think regular frost would have a strong enough structure to do that. Just a guess however. Thanks for sharing that.

Here's an oldie from 30 years ago I came across last night.. A scanned slide from a backcountry ski trip into the Rockies to an Alpine Club of Canada hut in Yoho National Park.

I haven't been adding to this thread due to my being hip deep in an odd photographic rathole. These old individually numbered pole tags have caught my imagination and eye, and I now have a headfull of usless utility pole knowledge and a growing collection of pictures of numbers... the goal is to comple1 thru 41, 41 being the initial instigator that started me down this path... The numbers and a half are a fun treat....

Outside my garage this morning...lol

That's absolutely frigging nuts for Victoria. We've had about 80cm (3 feet) here in the last while but that's sort of normal and we're used to it. Bummer here is at a daily high today of -21C it was just too cold to go skiing. Turning into wimp in my old age. LOL.
