A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Random Photo thread

On vacation in the Finger Lakes, yesterday we kayaked the Cayuga-Seneca Canal. I thought it was a terrible waste of energy for them to operate the lock twice just for us, but it was a pretty cool experience.

I wondered if that included the ducks..?

.

The ducks did not enter the lock with us. Someone told me later that the operation of the locks uses no electric power. Hydraulics, I guess. I’ll have to research it. I honestly have no idea how they work.

I rode the bike up to Cleveland last week for a work session at the VA hospital and though the ride up on Monday was wet and the GPS made the ride back on Friday very sucky, I got out for some pictures.

You'll need to bring your own forklift if you want to use this stamp.

Interesting bug. Google says it's a Luna Moth caterpillar.

I was sitting on a rock in the woods and the damn thing appeared out of nowhere. I thought I was trippin.

Maybe could be a "went for ride". But not much of a ride story. Just out for morning ride and coffee stop. Was gonna then go out for wildlife shots in a marshy area, so had the longer tele on.
But noticed was a bit breezy and waves splashing on the pier, and sun still in good direction. And blue sky made for being able to see the splash (with proper exposure, so used manaul exposure).

Maybe you have seen this scene before, but this with the longer tele (300mm zoom at about 200, on half size sensor camera, so 400mm equivilant).
I had to walk way back away from the bike.

For reference, the light houses are about 600ft apart from each other on the pier. ANd the bike is 2500 feet, so about half mile, from the bigger lighthouse.

I have posted such picture on local FB group, and get questions from local people confused because they cant think of where there is an anchor like that close to the pier.

For purposes of an image, I would have liked to edit out the bench, and that big orange warning pole, and the parking sign. But the big orange warning pole things (are 8 of them along the beach) are recently installed, so it somewhat dates the photo. And the other things help identifies/document the location.

I didnt notice the surfer in the photo (in front of bike windscreen) untill later a few hours later.

This from over 7000 ft away, so about 1 1/4 mile, looking down the channel from up on a hill.

You might ask why I didnt go park bike in there. Well the nearist places (this side of fence) would have been inside the Coast Guard station. ANd the next place is a city park "authorised vehical only" and were some city trucks nearby, and was kinda far to walk, when I was trying to get around to a couple other locations yet.

So, I rode up to Hamilton, Ontario Canada to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum last weekend. In piticular I wanted to check out the Lancaster WW2 bomber airplane. I get there and no Lancaster. I figured it was out at a airshow someplace, no big deal as there was plenty more to see... Next thing I hear the roar of 4 V-12 engines passing overhead! The Lancaster!!! Not only was I able to see the big beautiful aircraft, but I was able to see it fly and hear it run too! Imagine my excitement!

Afterwards, I went to find a hotel, not to cheap, but paying with the american dollar it was like getting a 25% discount everywhere I went so that made it better.

I didn't have any problems getting into Canada. The patrol man asked me where I was from, where I was going, how long I'd be there, if I ever been arrested... Then asked me any famous people from Youngstown? That really through me off, ummm Bernie Kozar, he's from Youngstown. He let me into Canada.

Getting back into USA. There was 45 minutes of stop and go traffic getting across the Peace Bridge! I joked it would have been quicker to have cross at the Mexican border!
What a fabulous weekend, the weather was perfect. The grapes from all the vineyards smelled so fragrant.
Oh, one thing I missed out on Poultine. I really wanted to try some... next time for sure!
